Default the old 20V extractors on 16V head trick & other questions

    in FF format (AE92)

i have trawled Google, and toymods for 15 mins and have yet to find a yes/no answer, but i'm sure many people have done this swap..

1 - the factory 4AGE 16v oil cooler sandwich plate and Z386 filter.. does it clear the primaries? I'm using the 1 5/8" BT ones, not the 1 1/2" ST ones..

2 - also - i removed the heat sheilds off the secondaries to see how bad a small dent was just at the flange...

this part of the exhaust that joins to the Cat, the heat sheilds in this area looked fine i bought these BT headers (the ones on the right) and secondaries off a mate/fellow toymodder, no visable damage so to speak they looked like they had just been pulled form the car, no damage etc.. so seriously WTF is with that? surley toyota (or whome ever they contracted for thier exhausts) didn't do THAT on purpose!? i mean you can quite easilly fit a 3" system through there........?????????

Can't really give you a yes/no answer and I've been warned about regurgitating information, but this is what I've found on my own research using 20v headers for the AW11, which AFAIK is identical oil filter location, including sandwich plate as AE92.

From my research, the 20v headers clear the engine and oil filter no issues, the only fitment issue is the outer two bolts are placed differently between 16v and 20v; they are further out on the 20v, but you can drill a hole on one side and grind a slot on the other side for them to line up with the 16v bolt holes. See this thread:
    http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/tec...-16v-head.html

The 20v headers give better flow than even GZE headers apparently. A chap in the states makes 20v exhaust conversion parts so you can either use your 16v AW11 exhaust with a 20v, or use 20v headers on a 16v engine.

That flattened section looks horrible to me. I would be buying a 20v secondary flange and getting an exhaust shop to make me a new secondary, or just ask the shop to chop that bit out and give you a new section.

ok cheers thanks for that, just wanted to make sure, as the 20v had an angled plate under the oil filter.. which didn't do anything from what i can recall mind you..

yeh i'm re doing the 2 bolt holes no worries there..

and basically yep, we are doing 2 new 1 7/8 secondaries from a new flange plate, to a tapered merge collector with a 2 1/4 out.. i'll chuck up some pictures when were done..

the GZE 'headers' are just the same cast iron manifold that the GE's use yeh?? the 20v's were the only ones to come standard with a tubular design...

Yes that horrible flattened section is standard on pretty much all factory A-series exhausts...

Well, don't actually recall seeing one that looked that bad, but they all neck-down to a flat oval shape in that area where it goes over the crossmember
