Default Are MRP coilovers Strong? Also rod bolt queston.

    Question 1:

I have MRP coil-overs in the 82, with race spring set. When i tried it out on my friends gravel road, it is uber hard, and the suspension took one hell of a lot of abuse, as the car will do hill climbs/track days and some hill climbs will be off road I am curious about how strong are they? Can they take the abuse? I see them advertised on most car forums but most people I have talked too use them on the streets and/or race tracks and not on gravel. They make the 82 handle well, so would like to keep them but only if they are suitable.

    Question 2:

On billzillas website about tuning the 16v, he said you use chevy rod bolts, but which ones? 305/350 or big block? I can get arp for $120nz but chevy ones are a tad cheaper and are rated to 900hp. Can billzilla or anyone answer this?

Best bet on the coilover question would be to ask Barry directly wouldn't it?

Clearly you need a much softer set of springs for the gravel work than you do for tarmac work and you should be acquiring a gravel set up. At least change the springs for the gravel events.

Which version coilovers have you got of ours?
For gravel use ideally you need way softer springs as a starting point. Its hard to have coilovers that do both gravel and tarmac unless you want a compromised performance on one of the surfaces.

Oh, hay, first let me say, big fan of your gear!

The coilovers are your MRP branded ones for the ae82, with the race set springs (8/6). Originally brought them to use in hill climbing on tarmac, but have since decided to do some gravel events too. Just wanted to make sure they wont grenade themselves on the loose stuff as I was told they do get easily damaged.

    Any susgestions?

No they wont do gravel. The race ones are for Tarmac use.
If you want to do any type of gravel you need the street sets which are valved much softer to take bigger bumps.

Springs wont make it soft enough for gravel, it will help though.
You prob want to go 6/4k or 4/4 all round.
4k is the softest I can get. Set of springs is $200nzd

How much for higher rated springs, like 10/8 or 14/12?
