Default My first GT4 Rough Idling- won't start!

    Hey Guys,

I just got my first GT Four- a 1990 ST185 3SGTE ADM Widebody and it will also be my first big project! I have posted some pics and info in the members rides section

Anyway, there are a fair few things I need some advice on but I will keep it short! Due to such a small price I paid for a fairly straight, registered GT Four I always expected some difficulties and new of some prior but they are all fixable (I hope!).

Firstly and most importantly, the previous owner has replaced the oil line to the turbo with some makeshift kind of tubing/hose with hose clamps. I figure something happened to the metal one. There was no way I was driving it like that so had it towed home. In regards to this, basically Enzed can make up a flexible one for me if I bring the Turbo in so they can match it. I am VERY new to Turbos so some of this might sound stupid! Firstly how hard would it be to take the Turbo out myself to show them and how hard would it be for me to fit the oil line myself or have a mate do it? Also would I need a mechanic to put the turbo back in?? I am pretty sure there is nothing makeshift I can do about it for me to just get by for one drive? Pretty sure not!

Secondly, the car was starting but idling very rough and I needed to keep the revs up to stop it from stalling. After a few attempts it died and it now tries to start and feels like it's almost there but doesn't make it. I know this could be so many things but I did deal with a similar problem in my ST184 NA. The spark plugs were pretty fouled (platinum ones) so I will replace them first. The dizzy cap is average so I am thinking I will replace that and the rotor as well as the spark plug leads ( that was the issue in my ST184). Failing that what would be some suggestions? Some things for me to have a look at? These are some things I am considering and tell me if I am wrong because I am no expert! So from the symptoms being rough idling, stalling, I think it's running rich not too sure (very loud! possibly strong exhaust fumes but can't remember!) and now turning over and not starting I am thinking poss:
    Airflow Meter
    Knock Sensor
    Ignition Coil
    Whole dizzy/rotor/sparkplug & lead setup
Old fuel that has been sitting in there (wasn't driven)
A bad fuse or wiring connection- but where and which one would cause this??)
    MAP Sensor
Maybe a wiring problem +B and +B1 and not getting enough voltage to the ECU
    Starter Motor

Has anyone else had a similar problem and fixed it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks
    Em

Oh and also I did a diagnostic test and no error code showed up. However, I haven't reset the ECU via removing the EFI 15V fuse from the engine bay so maybe doing that will be a better way to reset it and see if I pick up any error codes? Also to note when the car was turning over and starting there was not an engine light on the dash. Having almost an identical problem with an MR2 SW20!

had a similar issue on a 4age - ISCV (idle speed control valve) could be gunked up and slow to move or stuck/blocked.

compression test would be a good idea too I guess, oh and maybe check the fuel pump hasn't given up.

Just took her down to C-Red (great guys who offered to check her out for my safety) and yay! Hydrolocked cylinder and dead silly I was devastated but then I found an awesome wrecking 89 Toyota Celica ST185 JDM 3sgte with only like 89k on the clock with a Yamaha head and perfect gear box/loom all the rest! So basically as I love the wide body and the bigger ADM breaks etc I am getting the engine/loom/gear box etc transplanted into my widebody!

I feel better that it is a fresh start and I won't have to fix basically every problem as it wasn't just the engine. The car was p*ssing out oil, gearbox fluid, power steering fluid you name it and basically everything was butchered beyond repair! Seal tite through it as predicted etc!

Haha oh well it seems all for the best!
