I run a GT35 on a 2jz, and on low boost it's on 10psi - 44mm wastegate is plenty
Hi, ive been googling but cant seem to find examples of simerlar set-ups.
not sure what size wastegate to buy for my set-up. im only looking at quality units, mainly tial.
i have a 2jz, my turbo is a simerlar size to a gt35, maybe a tad smaller with a .81 hotside. I want to be able to run low boost ~10psi as its a street car and other people such as my mum drive it occationally. plus it will be run with stock computer and injectors atleast to begin with.
i have seen plenty of examples ofs 44mm gates being used but this has been with higher boost and or larger turbos. my understanding is higher boost or larger turbo needs less bypass.
Is a 44mm tial going to do the job well or should i save my pennies another week and go a 60mm?

44mm should be plenty depending on manifold design and flow to wastegate outlet
poor positioning can cause spiking ect
Thanks for the reply, its good to get a reply from someone who is using a simerlar set-up.
High kwarity manrifold, chinas fines. was looking into manifolds and i was seeing quite a few reveiws of 6boost manifolds splitting at the collector as they are not able to be welded. my china manifold is welded internal. although its pretty bad as a collector. fair chance ill upgrade later down the track but it was another $800 thats better spent elsewhere.
yeah, I'm still running by e-bay spec $150 china manifold. 4+ years of abuse later and it's still going - I honestly expected it to last 18 months
China manifolds are awesome value, I got one for $100 off eBay that some bloke had in his shed for 12 months unused and I'm quite happy to drop a expensive turbo onto it. I reckon a trip to get it ceramic coated will probably double its value (lol) and triple its lifespan.
Sure, a 6boost manifold will probably make a bit more power but the $1000 saving buys a Kazz 2 way, 25 cases of piss or gets me halfway to a fancy aftermarket ECU.
These a guy selling them for $89 posted at the moment, was thinking of buying one as a spare.
If you're on a budget, go for it - bang for buck they're great.
I'm currently looking to replace mine with a proper manifold (probably 6boost) - it makes a fair bit of difference to responsiveness, and a bit to top end power as well
I would like to see back to back dyno readings to see much of a gain there is but I doubt anyone could be fucked.
depending on what order everything in my car comes together, I'll think about it - would be very interesting to compare
The dyno tune is what puts the spotlight on the manifold - a beautiful hand made steam pipe manifold on my 2JZGTE now getting boost some 800 rpms earlier and picked up 30 kws more power at 4500 rpms and an extra 190nm of peak torque - and it sounds better. A T04z, top hand made manifold, E85, a Wolf V500 and 570hp through an A340E auto box. I guess you get what you pay for......
Internally is where the manifolds let themself down i think. where they merge is a dogs breakfast. However they are double welded which the 6boost ones are not (?). For me this is something i can cheap out on at this point in time. The turbo and wastegate are more important. Plus im mostly racing bogans in r31s which i already chop.
Thats pretty interesting your results. it can be difficult though to have a 100% comparision. as tunes could have been tweeked, the new manifold may of had a tendancy to create more boost etc. That is a huge toque gain, i know people often gain quite a bit of toque from extractors on a n/a but wasnt sure how that related to turbo.
I ordered a 44mm tial last night![]()
