Cant help, but im interested too!
G'day all
Hoping someone can help.
I am currently having a c56 gearbox redone at a gearbox place and am having massive issues trying to locate a bearing and synchro kit for it. Hoping someone can provide me contact details of anyone that can supply a brand new kit for this gearbox. I believe the gearbox came from a AE111 Levin with the black top motor.
Thanks
Michael

Looks like I may have found someone. There's a place at Moorebank(Sydney) called Gearbox Solutions that's showing promise. I found out that there are two generations of the C56. The first one you can interchange the bearings and syncros with the c52. The second gen made from 2003 up they are unique and stronger then the first and use different bearings and syncros. If I can't get them locally I may need to buy a kit from the US and take a chance they will fit.
were u able to get a price on them mate?
Kits are for model airplanes or carburetors, anything you'll find is only conglomeration of parts from who knows where, except the syncros that'll be from the factory.
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
2nd - 3rd gear syncros cost a bit over $100. Steve from Gearbox Solutions is doing up the box now. His details are 401 Newbridge Rd, Moorebank, NSW, 2170, Ph: (02) 9826 6669. The replacement syncros are full brass making them stronger then the original Teflon coated ones. It's taken me a month to hunt these down. Hard to get from Toyota unless you have the VIN off the car the gearbox came from. When I talked to the guys at Toyota they thought I was from a different planet. There is also this place in the US, http://www.manualtransmissionpart.com/mm5/merchant.mvc. Very helpful, nearly bought a set from there but luckily I found some one local. If all goes well the car might be ready by the end of the week. I have a Holden Nova that I'm building up as a track car. Converting 4afc to a worked 4age on twin webbers. I'll post some pics when it's all done. My advice to anyone that has a 2003 and up c56. Get a spare and have it done up and store it. If you ever need it then you can easily swap it over and not have your car off the road for weeks on end chasing parts.
Get a VIN (Talk to Terra Operative, he's stripped a few C56 boxed AE101's [I bought a C56 from him] so probably has a VIN that will work.)
Then punch that into www.toyodiy.com and you will get the part numbers as needed.
Hit up www.amayama.com and you can get the parts through them for pretty awesome pricing.
My box is from an AE111, different syncros from the AE101(would you believe). Good idea about getting a VIN. I'll have to chase up and AE111 levin VIN and keep it for the future. Having said that, this guy from Gearbox Solutions can tell them apart and knows a bit about the different boxes.
