I would say yes do them while its all apart. It's hard to say wether you need to grind the crank with out looking and measuring the crank.
If your in Sydney I can give you a hand if needed, I can also get the parts required.
Cheers Craig
I have a stock 2T engine destined for my most recent TA22 project. This particular engine was blowing some oil smoke before I pulled it out of the doner car. I've stripped it down and found a couple of broken rings on #2 and #3 (explains the smoke). Next steps will be to give it a hone and replace all the rings. However I'm wondering whether to replace all of the crankshaft bearings (main & big-end) while I've got everything in bits. Somehow feels like not the right thing to do without doing a grind/rebalance of the crackshaft ($$$!), which I don't think is needed for this engine as best I can tell.
If a fresh set of bearings is the go - can anyone recommend a parts supplier for this particular engine (1974 vintage)?

definitely do bearings while its apart if you can or you will probably regret it later. Side note I am giving away an early 2t head with a 5 finger intake manifold which is supposed to be the best of the stock 2t stuff if you want it. Just need it gone as taking up space and hate to throw it away.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Craig, many thanks for the offer - it looks to be pretty straight forward, but I'll give you a yell if I get stuck. I have a few things to sort out on my running TA22, so won't be getting back to the engine rebuild for some weeks now. If you can help me out with the replacement bearings tho, that would be great - could you PM me with details?
stidnam - as a mad collector of all things TA22, I can't let you throw away a perfectly good 2T head - even tho I don't really need another one. Let me know how I can get hold of it (I'm out Windsor way).
Cheers,
Paul
