Anyone have a clue?
Hey,
I've finally got around to looking at my 1j vvti ects-i conversion into my mx83 cressida, and am a bit stumped as to why it won't run.
I have good injector pulse and have tested with a noid light, I have strong spark from the coil packs. I can feel the motor in the throttle body open when i hold the throttle body open.
When the brake vacuume hose is connected it will crank and give a little cough when i stop cranking, but with the brake vacuume disconnected it will actually run for 1-2 seconds.

I am about to hook up a DLC3 connector so I can do a diag scan via the ODB2 reader, but in the interim I thought I'd ask if anyone knows what the issue could be. I am pretty sure I don't have the immoboliser ECU as there is only 5 pins on the ecu, and the diagrams indicate there is 6 pins if you have the immoboliser connected.
The STA pin on the ecu is connected + I built a fuel circuit relay thingy to control the fuel pump. I tried hard wiring the fuel pump so it is constantly running just as a test too without any success.
There is 3" intercooler piping and there are no leaks plus a 3" exhaust from the turbo back and the gearbox connected is the auto a340e ( or whatever came with the engine).
Thanks for your time
Anyone have a clue?
Check your airflow meter, these things will not run if that is fubar. They will start initially, but will not run. Cleaning them with carby cleaner is an absolute NO NO, if you have used carb/throttle body cleaner, time to get a new AFM.
cheers Chuck.

Unplug air flow meter and try run in then
I recently had to start a 2j vvti and it would not start due to wrong air flow
Try running it without air flow unplugged and then also try running it on aerostart
If the noid light is flashing means ecu is triggering injectors so maybe u have stuck injectors
Have u powered up the etcs in the ecu
Thanks guys.
Yeah the BM pin is connected at the ecu to constant power via fuse. I'll unplug the maf sensor and give it a go. I'll also pull out the injectors and give them a bath / test.
I haven't wired any of the gearbox pins to the ecu yet, these are just for the dash lights right?
gbox wires wont matter
ive done afew with manual gbox and never had any issues
Unplugged the maf sensor and well it started and ran.
CEL light came on which is to be expected with the maf unplugged. I had the maf sensor hanging in the air intake pipe, would that have anything to do with it or is it more a faulty sensor?
Pretty happy now
unplug maf and ecu diverts to limp mode map
have maf plugged in but not in proper stream nearly makes then not run at all
later mafs u can have noooo leaks or it will not barely run
So you recommend buying a factory jzx110 air box?
Half sorted, but it is now leaning out under boost. Does anyone know the standard diameter for the maf sensor tubing?
bump still looking for the tubing diameter...
Hey mate, had similar problems with a vvti jzx8, would idle but really sluggish up the rev range, and didn't seem to boost at all. Could it be the piping around the afm? What got your one working?
While I'm here the two ecu pins you mentioned in the thread, what do they do?
