Re the second dot point, you could check out the Ratsport UK website. They sell the 'rack & pinion' type wiper systems.

Hi guys,
I am in the process of a full rebuild on my TA22 Celica and I've discovered the wiper motor isn't too healthy (sounds like a coffee grinder, and the wiring inside has all perished causing shorts).
So I'm wondering what my options are regarding replacing/rebuilding it?
Options:
- Replace with a 2nd hand unit and hope it will last
- Replace with an aftermarket / reco item - do they exist? if so where would I get one?
- Rebuild the one I have - can someone recommend a place that can fix it?
Any help would be appreciated.
Dave

Take it apart, clean up the commutator, clean or replace the brushes, clean & grease the bearings & gears.
Make sure all the linkage & shafts move freely.
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
Yeah agreed with allencr- these wiper motors are 40 years old and probably have never been opened up and cleaned once. Take it out and have a look, you'd be surprised what a bit of elbow grease and WD40 will do.

Old, yes - but they are simple and quite solid little units. Plus, if you think about it - they only get used for a small fraction of the car's time on the road. These units do come up for sale for reasonable dollars from time to time on eBay / Gumtree. There are a few contact details I can give you for 1st Gen parts dealers if you want to ask around.
I have it fully pulled down and the internal wires have all had their insulators go hard/brittle and have perished causing internal shorting. I may be able to slip some heat shrink over the broken insulators and fix them up, and maybe it will work. The mechanical side is easy, I've already cleaned out the grease that had gone hard in the gearbox section and cleaned up the contacts for the return circuit.
Does anyone have the pin out for the wiper motor plug? since a couple of the wires have perished and i'll have to desolder them off the terminals to slip some head shrink on, i'd like to double check the pin out prior to fitting it into the car.
thanks all

I saw some thing the other day about Camry ones can be used, sv20 or sv25s?
