    Default HELP, 2TG parts identification

    Hi everyone,

I got most of the way through my 2TG build and then found some random bits I missed. I was following the reassembly sections from my manual and can't see them mentioned anywhere, or see then in any of the exploded diagrams in the T series spec thread.

The plug is not the one from the water drain, it is smaller than that one.

Sorry to keep spamming the forums with this question, but I don't want to keep going with the build until I am sure I haven't missed anything vital (which might already be the case). The plug is particularly concerning me.

    Cheers,
    Chris

These parts definately came from the 2TG that you stripped down and rebuilt? Any chance these are just extras that were in the same box?

How about a banking bolt for the oil temp sensor hole? Check to see if your block is drilled and tapped near where the oil pressure sensor is on the intake side. The thread should be BSP or something similar but not metric so check the thread on the bolt against a metric bolt of the same size and see if the thread pitch is the same.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks! I hadn't spotted that one before, I will go check.

I stripped down one 2tg and one 2tgeu (running webers), putting all the bolts into the same bucket as I thought that without the efi gear they were the same (hence my earlier fuck up with the dummy cams).

I'm pretty sure that I have two of each of these parts though, so unlikely to be 2tgeu specific.

There is no screw in plug on the front of the block right? I know there is a little one on the back, I have put that one in. I'm just shitting myself that I'm going to have to take the head off, to take the timing cover off, just to screw in a stupid plug.

    Cheers,
    Chris

It is unlikely that your block is drilled for that hole as this is for the sensor that is used for the optional oil temp guage which is rare. It shouldn't be from the front of the block as you can see in the below pics what each hole is for. Another option is a banking plug on the side of the block to close the oil gallery. This is circled in red in the second pic.

Looking at the parts diagram there is not much esle that it can be from internally so I'd say that you would be safe and not need to open it back up.

Ah mate you're an absolute champion, that is almost certainly what it is. Thanks so much for the time to put up those pics as well.

    Cheers,
    Chris

That second part is from top of the lower timing chain tensioner... Or look like.

Thanks mate, you are the second person to say this now, so probably correct. Also, you can see in the pic below that the colour of the tensioner is slightly different where this would cover, so seems to agree there too.

If thats the case though, it is essentially just a washer. I used Nyloc on those bolts, so they should be fine. Not worth pulling the head and timing cover back off for anyway. For some reason the part is not on any of the diagrams I was using, so not sure what the go is there?

    Cheers,
    Chris

EDIT: PS, stidnam was right on the money with it being this plug, with the timing cover on you can't tell this is an oil gallery and I thought it was one of the bolt holes for the AC bracket.

You would've found out quickly when it started pouring oil on startup! hehe.. There is also another small plug with a bleed nipple that comes off the front of the head inside the timing chain area - it is designed to dribble oil on the chain when you have oil pressure.
