Very rarely can you get away with just replacing the Big End Bearings , Usually you will have scoring to the Rods and Crank.Originally Posted by go_the_datt
If you have scoring to the crank or rods and you just slap some bearings in you will have the same issues not to long down the track when the scoring grabs a bearing or something.

If there's no damage, it's fairly cheap - around $100 or so. Unfortunately, as has been said before there is very rarely no collateral damage...Originally Posted by go_the_datt
4agze's are good engines, but they are 15 years old and thrashed ofcourse some are going to have issues, its not to say they are not a strong engine, mines been running 15psi for years.
like mentioned, once the big ends start making big noises, youre usually past the point of simply replacing the bearing shells. most likely you will require the crank to be linished and the conrods closed and honed.
I've just had mine 4AGZE rebuilt & from the 1st time it fired up (after a crap load of dramas) it had a similar sound to yours. But mines across the whole rev range & I thought that it must be something in the head as I have Tomei cams in there. But after hearing the sound of yours in your vid, mine sounds a lot like it. I'll take a vid of mine & post it so you can hear & maybe you guys could help me out too.
My 4AGE sounds like that, it's just the exhaust manifold gasket. $15 on a tube of copper gasket maker will rule it out for you though.
My 4AGE is a little heavier then that and not at the same frequency, a little more of a click but loud enough to hear it down the road. Road worthy inspector picked it first go.
Ok I've just had my GZE rebuilt & I've got 264 Tomei cams & uprated springs along with some head work, pistons, blah, blah, blah & as soon as it cranked over it made a similar ticking noise coming from the valve train or so I thought (still do think it does). Until I saw some comments on here suggesting it might be the exhaust manifold gasket. Now Ive got a sneaking suspicion that might be the case for me. Heres a quick vid, whats your thoughts guys?
Sounds oddly private lol
Means your youtube video is set to private lol
Hahaha never mind I figured it out & made it public
Sounds kinda like an exhaust leak
Worth the hours work to pull off and check the manifold
Thanks bud I'll take a look this weekend if I get the chance
