Default 1jz speed signal and wiring questions?

hi guys, im currently fitting a 1jz and a340e into a volvo 240.

my question is regarding the 2 speed signal inputs for the trans. i understand one is in the gearbox, and the other in the clockset. they're both 4 pulse per rpm signals. i wont be using the soarer clocks, so how do i generate a 4 pulse per rpm signal? can i tap both input wires into the one sensor?

finally any info how you guys have done this would be greatly appreciated.

SP2, is as you say 4 reluctor (AC waveform) pulses per gearbox output shaft revolution.

SP1, is 4 pulses (squarewave) per revolution of the speed sensor. The SP1 signal to the engine ECU is the same (effectively) as the gearbox mounted SP1 speed sensor signal, or this SP1 signal is generated in the dash if your auto is driving a speedo cable... However it's worthwhile to note that there is an ~6 (There are also other teeth number gears available...) teethed gear on the gearbox output shaft that drives an ~18 teethed gear that is on the sensor (that generates 4 pulses per revolution)...

As the SP1 sensor is driven from gears, the gears can be changed as needed by Toyota in the factory to make sure the engine ECU (and dash) gets the correct actual road speed given that the same car might come with different wheel and diff ratio options...(this is handy so that the auto shift points are correct in regards to road speed).

So you can see that both sensors are 4 pulse per rev, but they arent exactly the same... you wont be able just tap the one sensor for both signals... and you don't need to!

If your auto gearbox is set up to drive a cable speedo, then simply change the cable drive for an electric speed sensor at the gearbox.

If you don't have a dash that needs the SP1 signal then you can simply wire the output of the SP1 speed sensor to the engine ECU and it will work correctly

    Cheers
    Wilbo

im using a jzz30 donor, so no speedo cable. as i read it, the ecu uses the trans sensor, and only uses the dash as a back up, on which case, can i just wire the trans one and leave the other disconenected?

or am i being too simple?

finally i have some wires not on your list..

pin 9 of the orange plug i have a yellow with a green stripe and 2 silver spots. your list says this pin is blank

pin 14 of orange plug i have a green with white stripe and 2 silver spots, its not listed

pin 8 of white plug is yellow with a black stripe and 2 silver dots. its not listed.

pin 13 grey plug p/n 90980-10813 is white with black trace, and 2 silver spots. its not listed

    any ideas?

    sorry for the questions...

u dont need the sp1 signal for the auto to change gears
as long as sp2 is hooked up properly so if u dont cut the wrong wires sp2 will work

anyway many years ago i looked at relationship between rotation of speedo cable and rotation of outputshaft on a 1uz box

i think u need to turn outputshaft about 3.1 to 3.3 turns to get cable to spin once

why do u need to hook up green white if its on the shifter
    was yr car originally manual

green white can also be brake signal to ecu

    how fking hard is it
get a multimeter and prob the wire
we r not going to spoon feed u hehehehe

like i said it might be oil pressure
    otherwise check diagnostic plug
but i dont know any other yellow black other than oil pressure

how is asking for help with one wire being spoon fed? i thought that was the point of a forum. i dont own a multimeter so testing continuity isnt an option.

    thanks anyway.

    Heheh
Well u should goto toymods favourite gadget shop
And show your toymods discount card and buy a 5 dollar multimeter
    And a test light
They are a must when dong conversions
I'd hate to see the quality of the job if u don't have proper tools heheheh

    Anyway in my proper diagrams

Pin 9 orange plug green yellow is te2

Green white pin 14 is "D". From inhibitor

The yellow black supposedly goes to pin 29 on the ecu
And in one of my diags pin 29 is "CCO"

I have no white black on my grey plug diagram
But pretty sure it will just goto ground
