Default 4AGE 20V Blacktop Diagnostic Tool

    Hi All,

I'm a long time lurker first time poster! I recently picked up a 4AGE 20V Blacktoop converted AE92

I'm a complete noob to the 4AGE 20V engines and I think I would get a better insight as to what is happening with this engine if I got a Diagnostic tool.

The only issue is I have no idea about what connector it is, where the connector is etc? I have seen a connector in the engine bay which reads "Diagnostic" but I'm not sure if that would be where i connect the tool and what plug it is.

I may be able to take a photo when I go home today if that helps at all.

If anyone can help out it would be greatly appreciated.

FYI the engine is a 4AGE 20V Blacktop.

    Cheers, Jacob.

There is no Diagnostic tool, you jumper certain pins in the diagnostic box to test various circuit or enable the error code mode that flashes the check engine light in a series of patterns to define an error code. You can find most of this information in the Big Green Book (BGB) for your car (or if it's a conversion, the car it came from).

In a properly done conversion, you should be able to bridge the T1 and E1 connectors in that diagnostic plug, by using some stiff wire or even a paperclip if you have one handy.

Once this is done, the ECU goes into diagnostic mode, and when you turn the key into the ignition on position, you should get a number of flashing lights show up on your dash; this is if the check engine light was properly hooked up during the conversion, which it *should* be.

The number of flashes will indicate a code which represents the problem. Usually you might get something like 5x flashes with 1 sec pauses between, then you'll see a 1.5 second pause (it's noticeable that it's a longer pause), then another 2x flashes with a 1 sec pauses (5 flashes + 2 flashes = error 52). There could be multiple codes too but by the end of it there's one big long pause.

I don't have anything handy to give you a full list of the error codes, but if you google "4age 20v diagnostic" you find a lot of useful webpages, like this:

The pins you want to bridge on the diagnostic port will look like this:
