I love it how u spend heaps on engine and nothing on electronics
Keep up the good work
hey guys have just fired up my titan spec 1.5jz specs as follows:
1jz head, port work, o/s valves, ti springs retainers, 264 cam 9.5mm lift, gates cam gears
2jz bottom end , 86.5mm JE pistons, manly rods, acl bearings
jza80 loom/ecu, running OEM stock injectors, stock fuel pressure although running 044 fuel pump
as i am trying to run my cams in for the first time the car is running insanely rich, as in it will fill up the shed with fuel smoke within a few minutes of running, and the manifold starts to glow RED at only 2000 rpm... any ideas what i have missed?
i understand it will be richer as im using a stock ECU and bigger cams, but ... black smoke just POURS out the back
have just wired in a new 3 wire o2 sensor and it doesnt seem to change anything.
map sensor is connected
Another thing to mention is im running an r34 TPS sensor , with a universal type throttle body, could this be a factor ? it idles/revs smoothly
any help much appreciated.. just want to get it running well enough to drive it!

the reason behind the stock ecu and injectors is for run-in... once the 1000kms is done a haltech 2000 and 1600cc injectors are going in.
but if i cant get the stock ecu running how i want ill have to buy the haltech now rather than later..
cheers

Toyota OEM ECUs (atleast pre-1996 JZ) utilise a combination of alpha-n and speed-density tables.
Thus, if you connect up a Nissan TPS, injection will be completely off, because the resulting TPS voltages will be off.
99% of tps's are 0.5 to 4 volt so that should be fine
He doesn't have idle contact but that should not make it run rich
Even without map sensor should not make it run so rich
Something has changed like injectors are way to big or something stupid we are not told about
Maybe u have cranking signal to ecu always on
Even that should not make it run that rich
Drop fuel pressure to 30 or 20 psi see what it does
Unplug all sensors except for ones to make it run
Unplug maf. Map. Tps. See if it helps
Bit of an update if i bridge the 2j idle switch to the nissan tps output it runs like a dream
But as soon as you blip the throttle it coughs and dies.. If theres no way to rig up a switch of my own ill have to buy a new tps
Any jz experts? Cheers

From what you have said in your PM, I think the easiest thing is to either
1) Get / fit a TPS that has an idle switch built in
or
2) Fit a small micro switch (i.e. check out what jaycar have) to trigger the idle signal
Cheers

Cheers for your reply wilbo, turns out it wasnt Tps related at all
1. Map signal was cut to ecu
2. The 5th and 6th injector wiring had been swapped (chopped loom)
Making it backfire and carry on
Pain in the ass but its all sorted now.
