PS. Heres a pic of what my fucked bush looks like. That ring is the bit thats a right prick to get out. There should be a ring of plastic/rubber inside that, then another ring of steel.
The brass bush replaces the 3-layer factory design.

Yours might be different by the sounds of it, but my W58 cant be filled through the shifter hole like an R154 can. The fluid will fill up the little cavity under the shifter before it runs into the actual gearbox, and might not run through into the box properly. I cant remember the exact design, but I do remember thinking 'fuck, I wont be able to fill this up like I could my R154'.
If youve filled it like that, and its leaking around the rear of the box, you might well have some fluid over flowing there. How much fluid did it take? Should take pretty much spot on 2.4L.
I ended up running a hose down the back of the engine bay, down the trans-tunnel and tucked it into the fill hole. Worked a charm.![]()
I used to eat alot of natural foods. That was until I learned that most people died of natural causes.

Nah, definately leaking around the front of the bellhousing. Rage.
Mine does look like that, but it does fill down into the rear housing. I don't think it's leaking at the sandwich plate seals but will confirm.
My bush also doesn't look *that* fucked, I am pretty sure it still has 3 rings. I did put 2.4 litres in, but it spewed a bit out, so the volume is a bit of a guess at the moment...
Thanks for the help mate
where did you buy the box from?
are you sure it was working properly when you bought it, i'd hate to think it was actually a bearing problem and not a shifter problem
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are
I bought it from CLG.
He told me that he purchased it a few years back for a project that never eventuated, and was ex-JZA80 and done around 78,000km.
Perhaps this is the car telling me I should have just bitten the bullet and put an R154/V161/T56 in it...
Or to sell the whole fleet and dance a european 6.3 litre dance...
Dont put a V161 into it, theyre pricks of things that dont like being shifted into 3rd quickly. V160 is better, still spendy though.
R154 or T56 IMO. T56 would be the pick but the list of custom bits gets slightly annoying. I was gonna put a T56 in my other supra, but the whole lot got put into the too-hard basket after a while.![]()

Neither the V161 or the T56 would fit anyway (well, not without a fair bit of work)
T56 would be an asshole of a thing to mate to a 7M, not so bad for a JZ though.
OK, so my bushing still looks fine, but I have solved the issue!
The rubber gasket that goes between the shift housing and the extension housing... it covered part of the rear selector shaft end cap, and so when shifting into those gears, it provided enough resistance to spring the gears back out.
I cut that part out of the gasket.
So it works fine now! Although does need a front seal - leaking quite badly - so the box has to come.out anyway...
But thanks to all for the help!
