    Default xtreme carbon clutch question?

I am after some feed back on the xtreme single plate carbon clutch, I am after one for my ma71 turbo and would like a clutch that will hold 250rwkw, my local clutch shop has suggested an xtreme carbon clutch plate and a custom built pressure plate, what I am wondering is what this type of clutch plate will be like to drive. My car is not a daily drive but I don't want a clutch that's a pig.
Any feed back would be helpful.

    Thanks

Can't really comment on their carbon clutch, but I have an Xtreme uprated pressure plate in my daily AWD with a slightly uprated organic disc and super light flywheel, and it's about on the limit of what I could call daily friendly when driving through stop/start traffic. This heavily skews though by the fact that it is AWD. All other times it is fantastic. I'm not putting out 250kw atw but I would imagine the Xtreme clutch would handle close to it in it's current form. Not the most refined clutch out there, but for performance I have no complaints.

I would imagine the carbon disc itself wouldn't be the problem, it would be the pressure plate that you would need to ensure is light enough not to be annoying but with enough grab to handle the power. Some manufacturers out there do some pretty smart stuff with floating point pressure plates on a twinplate clutch to keep them driveable, so maybe call around and see what they say? I hear NPC clutches are excellent as well.

Thanks for the feed back, I have read npc are good to, the reason I asked about the carbon clutch is I have read that they can slip when cold and need to be heated up, I just want to be sure the money I am spending is worth it.

I have an MA71 turbo with 255RWKW, and I've been running an exedy uprated pressure plate and full face organic disk for some years now. It is super friendly, and has handled the power without drama so far. How hard do you expect to drive it?
No idea about carbon clutches though sorry.

I've got a twin plate extreme carbon clutch in my car. I've got issues but I believe they are related to the slave/master cyl arrangement, not the clutch.
The clutch itself is a pleasure to drive. No shudder, usable in peak hour traffic, can be slipped for hill starts etc.

Sciflyer managed to smash his, but it happened at the same time that his R154 snapped a shaft, so we don't know what caused what.

Thanks for the feed back guys, I like how easy a standard fibre clutch is to drive but I want to make sure I get this right first time as its not a cheap exercise, I have a very large ct26 hybrid turbo waiting to go on and would like to have faith that the clutch will hold. Cruzida, with your carbon clutch experience did you find any slip from it when cold as I have been told the hotter they get the better they grip.
I plan to do the occasional trip to Wsid with it and maybe some track days when the car is up to standard, I am not hard on drive lines though.

    Thanks

I'd imagine by "getting better the hotter they get", probably just means you can't do 5k RPM launches from cold and expect them to grab like they do when they are warmed up.
In terms of actually driving the car around normally when cold, you shouldn't experience any slip at all.

    Agreed.
Its fine when cold for normal driving (even spirited driving, just don't do as above)

I've got a carbon clutch in mine and I find it shudders sometimes when taking off. It's not an xtreme one though.

I don't get shudder in my Xtreme clutch at all, but going to a lightened flywheel (4.9kg vs 12.6kg dual mass stock flywheel), I have noticeable transmission noise when rolling around carparks, and at around 2600-3000rpm when boost comes on in second gear like eg. when I go around a corner and don't downshift to first. All other times I don't go near those rpm's in 2nd so it's not a common occurence. The noise isn't bad at all, but it's noticeable. The benefits outweigh the negatives here.

On my first Xtreme clutch with an OEM rated pressure plate the noise was worse, clutch lasted 80,000kms between my wife and I. Now I'm on my second set from Xtreme, it's much more refined, I think due to the clamping force of the pressure plate. They refined the design after I did the clutch/flywheel upgrade.

I wish OS Giken made their twin-plate "grand touring" style clutch for the Subaru Liberty/Legacy. Sounds exactly what I want.

I suppose I could just do a STi motor/gearbox/diff swap that does suit. lol.

OS is out of my price range I would think, I am trying to keep the whole job to $1500
I think I am going to go carbon over a stock type fibre unit, the thought of having to do it twice is not an option on my budget.
