Default Trying to identify a pair of BIG PORT 4AGE cams

Hi guys I have a pair of 4AGE Big Port cams that I am trying to identify. I was told that they where a WADE REGRIND , but nothing identifies them as such and they do not seem to be CROW CAMS either. But I could be wrong.

HERE IS WHAT I DO KNOW-----

    - original cam billett is not TOYOTA
    - part number on the cam gear end is (1465A )
    - only other marks on the cams is ( GB ) & ( 4 )
    - LOBES ARE approx 1MM higher
    - and duration appears to be longer
    - will not run properly on a std computer

What I really am after is a brand name and I can find out from there.

1465A heavily suggests they are Wade, as below (found on the forum searching for 1465A):

To avoid coil-binding, after the tappets are set, check that the valve-
spring can be compressed at least an extra .050" after full lift has
been achieved. This will stop the valve springs from binding

Thanks , I think you cracked it . I looked on the WADE SITE but did'nt fine anything like that. Some of us old guys are still a bit slow !!!! when it comes to Computers ? That sort of tallies with what the guy I bought the engine from said , but he reckoned the duration adv was only 264. It seemed more to me , so those figures make more sense. Thank again for finding that. Cheers Bob

Would you beleive they where in a 4age I got a while back , put it in my sons AE86 , but it didn't run to well on a std computer . Went like the clappers to 6 grand , then just died ( no fuel , no air , I expect ). Not sure whats under the buckets , we put std cams back in to get him on the road for the moment . Goes ok , but stalls a lot on deceleration , but idles ok when 1st started ( when warm ) The Head has been ported as well . So until he can afford an after market computer etc etc , don't expect it to run as it should.

I have still got to finnish a roadie AE86 for historic rego and then start the KE15 Sprinter Resto . Was thinking a 4age ( Thats the engine now in sons car ) . But have decided to go 3k , keep it period and GO Historic rego on it as well . But still collecting bits , and have not really started a build on it yet. Have got to finance and finnish existing projects 1st.

224@ .050" is not all that extreme.... even though they say total duration is 277, the 224 @ .050" belays they are close to a 264, but with softer ramps

That's actually a longstanding argument with these cams, some find they *do* work with the factory bucket/shim setup, others don't.

Regardless of this, yeaaah they aren't going to work on a standard ECU all that well. And even if they did, you'd find the engine popping itself after 10,000kms or so, depending on how you drive it.
I've looked into this a bit on my GZE because I want to retain factory components (historic rego as well), 248 is about the max you can run on a factory 232 cam (although longevity is still questionable, adjustable cam gears may help to keep overlap in check). If you translated this into a 240 degree factory 4AG cam (although if yours is a bigport it's more likely to also be 232), then you might just get away with 256. Definitely not 264/277 though.
