5M-E Idle & Timing

Hello. I've just bought a build date dec 84 compliance plate feb 85 Supra auto with a 5M-E in it. It needs a lot of TLC to bring it back to somewhere near it's glory days including a bit of a tune. I have purchased a repair manual, but, it's all so confusing re the engine i.e. it seems this has an 82 model or earlier motor in a 84/85 body.

Can anyone tell me the correct idle in neutral/drive and the timing for this motor ?

Hi Trevor,

I gather you got a Haynes manual. Yes as it's designed for the US market, you will need to be careful as it will refer to your engine as a 79-82 model...

Globally MA61's had the 5mge.... But because we are 'special' we got the poverty pack 5ME instead..... JOYS.....

Timing should be around 12-15degrees if you mod with a timing light...
