Is it the gear box?? My dad's cat died in his 7MGTE powered Ms55 and the insides of the cat would vibrate while car was in Netural/Park, but go away under load or in gear.
Hey guys, in my Cressida I have a rebuilt Aristo A340E. It drives fine, changes gear and does everything an automatic gearbox should do except when in park and neutral there is a rattling nose coming from it. Put in into gear and it goes away.
Its not consistent nor is it overly fast and tbh not really there when cold, got a video of it
Any ideas?
Sounds like something is loose but not quite 1000rpm loose, I have no ideas on the internal details of the box.
Its been fully rebuilt, stronger clutches and whatever else you do.

who built it?
sounds like the converter, like the MV one that shit itself, causing a full gearbox rebuild in a mates car..
Some transmission shop in Wollongong, I don't think its the converter though.
I'll go under again and have another good listen and check the cat.
Mine does the same thing. Pretty much since I had it built. It almost sounds like something rolling around in it. I've also noticed that its getting hotter than normal. I have a 1000$ torque converter but I didn't install it. I'm really hoping that the proper bolts were used and its nothing major. It seems to come and go. If it is the torque converter it's already to late. I have a thermostatic sensor on my trans cooler that I think turns the fan on at 180f but how are you guys installing a temp sensor. Should I put it in line with the cooler out. Or should I drop the pan and get one welded in? Considering my trans cost more than the motor and turbo setup I really would like to preserve it as long as possible. Oh and FYI. It's not my cat since I don't have one. Lol.
the MV automatic ones arent perfect - they do heat up after a while and the seals that come with it can be replaced with much better. my guy @ unique auto told this to me a while ago when i was asking for his opinion on the shift kits/built autos. he has installed 100's over his years. time to get it open i suppose

What do you mean. The mv auto? I had it built by IPT. They are known for their Toyota autos. I don't think it's any seals. Just as a background. I had it in another car that I crashed. It was the front left and rear left of the car. The drivetrain was ok. Or so i thought. But the trans has made the noise since day 1. I haven't had the car on the road very much since the swap over to my new vehicle and I didn't have the aux trans cooler fan wired up yet. I just did it today. That's how I was judging the trans temp before. In the old car the fan would only come on in traffic or after stopping the car after beating on it. I'm just about done with the electronics for now and the car will be on the road in the next couple days. Hopefully I'm just misjudging the temp. But the noise isn't as loud as the video posted earlier n the thread. But there definitely was a temperamental noise that would occur every so often. I'll have to see about the temp this weekend and hope that I'm just being paranoid. Lol.
sorry - i was meaning it to the original poster who mentioned he isnt sure of the internals, but most built toyota built autos here use the MV auto parts to beef it up. I may be wrong - but is NJ New Jersey or somewhere in Aus. I wasnt sure who IPT are sorry.

Nj is New Jersey. IPT has a great rep. I know they do a lot of mods via mail with overseas customers. I'm not sure what they use but I know that the auto I got is the fully built one. Upgraded sprags shift kit ect. Basically the works. I love it. I chirp 3rd gear. I just don't have the money to redo it. Figured I'd see if anyone had any suggestions on a temp, sensor. If inline is ok or if I need to do the pan. But the more I think abut it it may not be a bad idea to drop the pan and check my magnetss to look for metal shavings.
Yeah the noise does seem to come and go, I was just wondering if its a by product of building a strong box or if its something else?
Mine drives perfectly, sadly will only chirp 2nd unless its wet but I think that's a power problem lol
