Default QLD - Anyone up for changing valve stem seals + valve springs on my 1j?

Ideally hoping if I can find someone who is willing to do this in my garage (can discuss $$) Car is sitting without a turbo currently... I'm doing a few things before I send it off to get a manifold made.

Been reading into it and I can see there is a method of removing the valve stem seals with an aircompressor approach? so you don't need to open up the head.

I'm in the process of getting all the replacement parts, but lack the mechanic know how ...

So you know someone who can do this or a mobile mechanic up for the task? around east side Brisbane.

    Cheers

better take the head off so you can replace its gasket and see if there's excessive carbon deposits on valves, pistons, rings
Since the jz are non interference engines, there's some possibility you eventually drop a valve in and will have to remove head anyway

there was an awesome guide i had ages ago from a supra forum about changing the valve stem seals and basically rebuilding a 1j.

guy filled his cylinder with rope to stop the valve from falling

your in luck a bit of googling and i found it:

As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are

Use compressed air to hold the valves closed and buy the proper tool to get the collets in and out

Stem seals contribute to a smokey startup & a puff of smoke after idling & carbon buildup on the valves, if you've got oil consumption or smoke at other times or something else that's a symptom, don't blame the seals or expect them to fix it. Good luck.

I've got exactly that..smokey start up and on leaving from stand still..ran compression test, nothing odd.. the motor has seen a few runs with 25psi through the stock cams and I daresay thats hepled...no worrying oil consumption either.
