Did you check the ignition timing too & as you said the radiator is leaking llike that, one it sounds stuffed & too its not holding pressure which will lower the boiling of the cooling system too ..

I tried to check the ignition timing but the timing light I bought didn't work! I'm taking it back today and will do it later tonight. Even if it fixes the issue (fingers crossed that it does!!) I think I will get a new radiator regardless. It just means there's one less major part that's old/semi-broken.

Sorry to hawk goods (sort of) I've got a cross flow aluminium Volvo radiator that's in great shape (no corrosion/damage) and was in my TA22 that's running a CA18DET. Was keeping that cool at 210RWkW, but couldn't quite cut it at 250, the humble 2T won't be much of an issue.

It fits no mods required (other than drilling 4 hols in the rad support to mount it,) but you'll need different radiator hosing. As it's wider than the factory radiator (but no taller) you can (but don't need to) cut out the shroud that covers 25/30% of the frontal area. I'm missing the remote header tank (Mine was old and haggard and the air bleed nipple snapped so I thew it away,) but you can find them for nicks at any wrecker or brand new at your local volvo/ford dealer (this radiators designed so that header tank is pressureised.)

Yours for $75 to your door.

old photo, of before the car was running, please ignore the wiring mess

will even chuck in a thermo fan if I've still got it.

Actually is that the same diameter hosing? It looks a lot thicker than stock.
