Great work Todd W on the PB! You were having good starts today. What tyres were you running?

    Cool pics tyrie, thanks.

Found another annoying issue on the weekend with the car so low, the staging beam would see my front bar instead of the front wheels, so had to roll further back each time till it had cleared. Annoying thing was that it would see the gap between the front wheel & bar for a moment, go amber, then the car would settle on the chock and the beam would break with the front bar. Lucky Teppo knew all about it cause his RX4 did the same thing with the low spoiler, so was patient about having to chock twice each time

    Thanks guys!

Justen - as Phil mentioned the mod was new engine, a 13B PP. Pretty much a Group C spec engine.

Phil - my engine is probably sulking on the engine wall at Reliance. The PP is strictly a loaner, is an engine that JW has been collecting parts for over the years and he built last year for the Alpine Rally (cars have to be NA RWD). Unfortunately he didn't have a caged first gen RX7 shell so the engine went into his 2nd gen rally car, but a combination of the weight of the car and trying to keep it quiet enough to meet the supp regs meant it just wasn't going to work so JW pulled it out and stuck it on the engine wall. But he's been dying to run the engine in anger so when I ordered the Racing Beat exhaust a plan was hatched... I have no idea who had the most fun driving that car yesterday - I had a ball but I suspect JW enjoyed it more as he finally got some payoff on the time and money he sunk into that engine. It is an absolute animal! At some point the PP will come out and the BP will go back in - but until then I'll have some fun.

Remedial work means you'll be back out for November?

JoJo - same Dunlop DZ03Gs as I used last couple of meets. Would love to say I finally nailed the technique and that is why my launches were much better - but it was just because finally warm enough for tyres to work. They copped a hammering though, possibly need to sort replacements, may have to look at 225/50/15.

    Great photos Tyrie, thanks!

Driving the WRX was a good wake up - the RX7 really is purpose built for the hillclimb and I have a lot of seat time in it. Jumping into the WRX I felt like a total gumby - I had to be so much busier with the gearstick, and a lot of stuff just happened so much quicker. Reminder that I really do need to get some performance driving lessons, because I have a lot to learn.

Yep, the plan is to be back in November, and a Wakefield track day between now and then also.

I have to work on a solution for the axle tramp next...... was terrible off the line as a result.

At what RPM does that PP really start to sing Todd?

and what happened to Dave's motor? Just seemed to die a slow death in the staging lane. I didn't get a chance to catch him to find out what went wrong.

About 4000rpm - and it will just happily keep going. No idea what redline is, I just change gear when it seems to need to - so I'm in first all the way to 3/4 of the way up the hill and then hold 2nd for the rest of the track. Certainly helps with the times not having to change gears much.

Dave's motor must have heard you talking about the reliability of rotors! Dropped a rotor. Very odd that it happened just idling. If I remember correctly the engine was a bit of an unknown that has been passed around a fair bit. Very cruel that it happened so early in the day - and it was also the day that he decided not to trailer it...

1st gear to 3/4 up the hill! Are you running some mega-tall 1st ratio box or a 2.7:1 diff ratio? haha. Certainly didn't sound to be revving its tits off, that exhaust is so deceptive.

Yeah it was odd with Dave's car..... he was sitting in front of me in the staging area, idling happily, then it starting an odd loping cycle, slowed.......... and slowed........... and slowed............. and died as he opened the bonnet.

Its weird how rotors seem to run tops until shutdown, then next startup get a case of the shits and throw in the towel. I'd much rather hear it go bang on full song up the hill, then its more like a trophy rather than just giving up LOL

Running a pretty special close ratio box (again a loaner) with tall first and 4.77:1 diff ratio.

Be interesting when I go back to my own engine & gearbox (have had the c/r box on loan for a while now)...

Think that is what disappointed Dave the most - that the engine didn't explode spectacularly at full noise rather than the slow death at idle...

PP!! awesome. It would have to be geared right to work on that baby track so good work on ratio selection.

I test drove (joy rode?) a 13B PP RX2 years and years ago. Some huge Weber downdraft carby and nothing happened below 5K, then it picked up and by 8K you were screaming...all the way out to 11k!! Some question on tacho accuracy but whatever the redline it was fully screaming it's nuts off and you could hear it two suburbs away

Finally got around to uploading some vids from Sunday.

    JW burnout: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCFdF...&feature=g-upl
JW first run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsGBx...&feature=g-upl - excuse the wind noise drowning out all other noise
My fastest run – incar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=898JM...&feature=g-upl - luckily by this stage I had calmed down a little and wasn't whooping and carrying on like I did after I finished the first run.

Compare to incar with 13B BP and old exhaust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkoSp...&feature=g-upl
