Default exedy cushion clutch or standard replacemet? newbie

Hey guys I have an R154 in my 1j vvti hilux. I need a new clutch and saw the price of a cushion clutch is over 1000 bucks.
I have around 300 Hp at wheels.

is it worth getting the cushion button or will a stock replacer be fine/ another brand?
    any help is good.

I appologise if this is in the wrong section as i am new here. thanks

    locky

Just get a heavy duty organic from exedy or some other well known clutch manufacturer, button clutches even when sprung are stupid (buy a twinplate ffs) and cause more problems than they solve on street cars. Brutal engagement, harsh on the entire driveline and have terrible streetability.

What are some other well knows clutch mans? I thought the cushion button was for smoother every day drivers. thats what they said anyway. My car is not a drift or race car. its a daily with power.

Its quite often the case that claims about comparability or ease of use are often somewhat exaggerated.
For 300hp non drift/race/drag, a heavy duty organic is what you want.

Whats the cost of a Geniune stock Toyota clutch kit ?? If its not much different to the PBR one i would go the stock Toyota route as the power you are devoloping is basically the power they are rated for and built for & are the Genuine article ..

    I don't agree!
I had a sprung centre Exedy ceramic button clutch in my old RB20 S13 Silvia and I was more than happy with it. It was much better than I thought it'd be. Certainly it wouldn't last as long as a twin plate clutch, but it did cost half as much..............

The heavy duty organic clutch in my SC AW11 could initially stomach some full boar (read: 4500rpm, side step the clutch and car goes forward!) launches, until I started to get some power out of the engine. After just some mild upgrades (not even my twincharger set up), the mid engine traction was too much for the heavy duty organic to deal with during a hard launch. Next clutch for the Adub will be another sprung centre ceramic button jobby.

Each to their own, its subjective but I wouldn't use one unless there was no other option.
Direct clutches also offer rebuilds, had my old TRD clutch rebuild through them and I'm happy.

Yeah harden up guys buttons aren't that bad. I daily drove one for several years, you get used to it soon enough. Only things that get annoying are heavy traffic and car parks, countered by knowing that can dump it as often as you want until the 'box explodes without worrying about the clutch.
Added bonus is most of your dickhead mates wont be able to drive it and if they try they will look like idiots

Although to be fair i havent owned a manual car since then, kinda cbf with them now.
