i do know what you mean but no im not worried. it is all stainless the only think to be concerned with is cracking but even then it is a minimal concern.
Your not worried about the metal 'rotting' out under the wrap?

When i got my turbo manifold coated i recall him mentioning that he could "chuck it in the bath with the rest of the other stuff" (my mani was for a 4 cyl and fairly small) Perhaps that implies they're immersed in the coating before being heat treated?
This was at Competition Coatings at Granville. Cost $180 incase anyone needs a price comparison.
Eddie.
4agte finally completed. 234rwkw @ 8125rpm. Tis fun
ceramic coat australia in s.a spray all of their stuff!
He has a wand with lots of little holes in it to do inside of pipes

inneresting! would be good to find out more abotu their processes....
if i still have access to XRD stuff when i get back, i'd love to chuck a bit on and see what it's made of
what grade stainless do you have... some grades will "sensitize" (from vague memory) around 700-900 ish (yah.. real specific) and cause embrittlement... perhaps if it is a weldable grade than it is ok...
hmm, if he has a wand with little holes, then it definitely isn't thermal or plasma spray process.... they must just be spraying on a slurry of sorts and then sintering it after to form the coating....

my old dump pipe was 316 grade and coated but not wrapped.
the new one is 304 grade and has been migged together. the reason i chose 304 is cause i didnt have much of a choice as 3,5 inch pipe and bends i couldnt get in 316 grade.
I dont think ill have probs with cracking . I have had probs in past but a flexible joiner after the dump soon fixed this! ( you learn by your mistakes)
If you are interrested i can call him and find out a bit more about his process. He is a top bloke and would have no probs telling me

Quick question.
I have 20v primaries and secondary pipe ready to go onto my gze, would you guys recommends getting both the primaries and secondary done? The secondary has a flex joint but i'd assume they can work around it?
Cheers
yah i know i will kill it if i remove it, but im seriously thinking about a 3tgte conversion, when some dosh rocks up at my door that is
Ceramic coating is definitely the way to go along with a proper heat shield... I was informed by the exhaust shop that yes over a long period of time it can wear out your extractors, dump pipes etc by containing the heat...The wrap becomes hard & brittle pretty quickly from the heat. I re-used some old wrap I had laying around for one of the power steering hoses on my car, the stuff was all breaking up![]()

Hey TA22 GT, I just had a look at your pics and that ACL sheeting look alright. Hoe flexable is it? Might be a goer for the mani and hot side of the turbos. Not sure if i could utilise it for the dumps tho...
ReQuiem,
I have the ACL heat shielding on my manifold and dump pipe. Its not that easy to bend but if you take your time you can still get it pretty neat. Its the best heat shield I've seen.
In my opinion, ceramic coating together with this heat shield is the answer, well it was for me at least....
This is the pic of it on my 3T GTE
Cheers,
Simon
the ACL heat sheilding is the one they sell to FORD for the turbo 6 pots.
What is that stuff worth?
