Default ae86 disc rear hand break adjustment ?

    Hi Guys ,
Hope someone has had this problem and can shed some light?
Just put a JDM disc rear in my sons AE86 and can not get the hand brake to work ? Have a track car with same rear end and it works fine and have compared both and can not spot a difference.

Here is the story so far !!!!

    - calipers have been rebuilt by brake shop
    - cable checked against a new one no difference
    - cable mounting checked with regard to track car no difference
    - caliper piston screwed out to rest against pad , DISC nice tight fit when caliper is attached.
    - spacers added to in cabin adjuster ( same as track car ) to get more leverage.

But after doing all that , hand brake is full on after 3 clicks , but hand brake does not hold the car at all. When hand brake is pulled the lever can be seen to move , but it is not able to apply enough clamping pressure. The foot brake side of things works perfect , good pedal , correct bias --- JUST NO HAND BRAKE ?
What have I missed or done wrong ?

What makes it stop at 3 clicks, as 3 clicks is quite low ... Is the lever on the calliper fully cranked over at 3 clicks or is there more room to move ??

To set it up correctly if its all working ok, is to back off the handbrake cable fully & make sure the levers on the callipers are agianst their stops & then pump the brakes quite a few times & pull the handbrake on & off too & then re-adjust the handbrake cable & all should be good ??

You should be able to push the lever on the calliper by hand & feel the increased drag if not actually locking as you turn the back wheel .. Are the brake pads beded in, even if they aren't you will get some sort of clamping which will improve once they are bed in ..

The ADM handbrake lever and JDM disc brake rear equipped handbrake lever are different. The difference is in the location of the bracket you thread the cable through. Located slightly different on the disc brake lever.

A simple way around the problem is to substitute the ADM front cable with one from a SV11 Camry which is a little shorter and fixes your problem. If you have the JDM disc brake lever, the ADM front cable works fine.

Plus the correct setup of the calipers as per jondee's post
Cam mountain I feel different from the ordinary

Thanks to those that responded ----- problem fixed . Pulled the hand brake mechanism out and found that it was out of alignment ( bent !) . This was causing the cable to bind up and the more I ADJUSTED it ( put extra spacers in ) the worse I was making it bind . Previous owners may have been a wee bit aggressive on application now and then ? Rummaged through the parts bin ( never throw ae86 bits away -- you never know ????) So replaced the whole hand brake lever mechanism with an other unit and wacko we have a hand brake.
