Default w58 burnt gears please help

Gday guys we pulled my w58 apart and found that 3rd and 4th gear are burnt.
Obviously someone has run low on oil!
I haven't had this box in my car yet, is it worth running it for a while or will it
    destruct pretty quick?
I know gearsets are worth heaps, any ideas to get out of this problem?
Anyone got 3rd and 4th they want to sell?
    Cheers

as in discoloured... like blue or black?

the heating, depeding how long, could have caused the surface hardening to be... not so hard....

meh, if you don't have another box yet... may as well run it
it might blow up but..... it should make noise first.

umm.. and take vids of when it does but yeah, find another gearset/box

if you've munted the gear set on the input or output shaft, the layshaft (also called the counter shaft) is going to be just as stuffed.

You've be better off finding a replacement box at the wreckers and posting pics of the damage you did.

    cheers,
    Charles.

ive got as couple sets of gears in perfect condition but only the ones on the main shaft no lay shaft

***CHECK!!*** the main shaft where 3rd gear runs as toyota in all there wisdom failed to put a needle roller on this gear so it has a habit of picking up the shaft and chewing on it - especially if oiling has been an issue, the later boxes have twin syncro's on 2nd and a bearing under 3rd gear

if they are only coloured and not scuffed they should be ok, sounds like low or the wrong oil for sure

if you want my ones just to be a bit safer let me know ... pm sent
