Default MS123 custom coilovers (measurements needed)

    G'day fellas,

I'm getting a custom bolt-in coilover kit for my MS123 Crown made up.

    I need the following measurements.

-Top plates bolt diameter and distances between bolt centers
-Bottom mounts holes diameter, width and spacing
-Strut overall length and travel length

What are you planning to do for the rear? Or are you getting fronts only?
I'm not sure there will be room for a 'coil over' setup in the rear...

I was planning to get some for the rear too. I haven't done any work to the rear suspension yet, so I haven't looked at how much room there is.

This'd be so much easier if I had a hoist.

could run a ae86 style on the rear on just the shock mount but they look a bit dodgey to me.

Megan racing do an adjustable mx73 rear spring seat and shock combo, maybe look into that option?

I don't think its possible on the MS123.

The shock and spring are separate.

Do MS123 Crowns share the same suspension setup as MX73 Cressidas?
    Looks pretty similar in diagrams.
But rear coil-overs do seem to be available for MX73.

Would either of these fit my car?

The MS123 runs the same front suspensions all the other Crowns from about 1966 to 1991.

Its an old school double wishbone setup, where by the spring is held captive by the upper and lower wishbones, and the shock bolts in between.
You cannot replace this with a conventional coilover.

And no, those will not fit.

If you want to lower the car, get some Kings springs KFFL-01, but be prepared to cut the bump stop (my GS130 is now 80mm from the ground).
If you want stiffer shocks, good luck. The shocks are pretty unique to these cars.

The rear is very similar (if not the same) to MX73 and MA61, so you may find some inspiration there.

In all seriousness though, bag it.

I'd love to bag it, but I'm under the impression that it'd cost me thousands. There're no kits I'm aware of.

Can a coil-over not just bolt where the shock is?

    My shocks need replacing anyway.

Do the AE86 rear setups work on this model car?

We do custom setups. Have done them for the Corona AT-140 series chassis as well.

No, a coil over will not bolt in where the stock shock is. The shock mounts are no where near strong enough to take the weight of the car.

Yes, bagging it will cost thousands, but its cool. And there are no kits.

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

    That makes sense.
I have to replace all the shocks anyway, so I thought it'd be worthwhile spending a few extra hundred getting coilovers.

I guess I'll just chop the springs. Height adjustment would be nice, though. Bummed.
    Thanks for all your help.

Chopping the springs might make your already super floaty Crown even more floaty

It is a full chassis setup, so the top of the shock mounts sit comparatively low so would need a pretty short setup. QA1 or similar style coilover shocks should be able to be adapted to the rear with re-inforced mounting points.

Has anybody ever customised a coilover set up for a ms123?

i had some springs made up from dobinsons springs, supposedly it was 13kg fronts 10kg rear and i gave them measurements of the height i wanted, unfortunately it was not made to the height or stiffness i wanted, shocks are "lowered" but i still can't trust the local carbitz store aha, I'm still yet to upgrade sway bays and get a new set of bushes in front, everythings old and sagged after the years,

the car does steer a lot better than cut standard springs but its no drift car, the body roll i still get is hilarious!!

a stiffer setup would be mint!
