Hey everyone,
Just interested to know whats going on in the Toymods/Toyota community as far as cruises/meets are concerned for WA.
I see there are some really great meets and events going on between other clubs/forums/groups and invitations are being posted on this site.
However there seems to be a lack of a Toymods theme to any events being posted. This could be due to lack of organization and I understand from other clubs it does take alot of work and commitment from people to organise an event, however it seems people are attending the above mentioned events, which could suggest interest.
I'm just trying to gauge people's interest within the Toyota community. This forum seems to house a very diverse range of enthusiasts and interested to know what peoples thoughts/ideas are towards Toymods organised events, And bringing them together.
Are people interested in making events open to the Toyota community? Or are the smaller groups easier to manage?
Im interest to see what the community response is and whether there is a calling for an open group.
Cheers guys

Thirteen, there is a lack of Toymods events in WA because there is no official Toymods WA chapter.
TECCWA is our WA Toyota car club.

Happy for people to get involved with TECCWA and help expand and organise the things we do. As with most clubs, it's down to the efforts of people (members). As one of a number of TECCWA Committee members, we do our best to keep planning things, but we number around half a dozen, so members are needed and assistance/ideas for things.
We have and will be undertaking several Motorsport activities, as well as social events such as our display at Targa West this weekend, and getting involved with other clubs/cruises. Although, in the later case, they aren't TECCWA events simply events several TECCWA members with an interest participate in (e.g. Nostalgia Cruise)

Gene,
I could be misunderstood, but doesnt TECCWA require members to be paying? The idea was more to make an open Toymods/Toyota event where anyone is free to come along. Could be a misconception on my part though.
Thanks
Don't know of a TECCWA event that has turned away anyone interested yet - members get discounts on motorkhanas etc but anyone is welcome I'm pretty sure.
Thirteen13: We welcome anyone to come along to TECCWA events, you don't need to have a Toyota/Lexus, just an interest in them! Be it new, old, stock, restored, modded etc!
More the merrier!
Membership entitles you to be eligible for TECCWA discounts and vote at the AGM etc.

Well, TECCWA is like any club/association, as is ToyMods. For either, you can choose to become a member and receive the benefits available for doing so if you decide it's for you. For example, that can take the form of discounts, merchandise and access to club resources. To become a member, there is a membership fee which goes towards funding the things the club does. Toymods (besides the forum) is also a car club based in NSW, which you can likewise choose to join (as I have so as to help fund things such as this forum).
Having said that, I don't think TECCWA has yet held a "members only" event as yet. For example, our Red Mist Autokhana series is open to anyone, our Coffee Convergence meets are open to anyone, our Navigation run was open to anyone (cost for non-members/free for members) and our Targa West and Toyotas In the Park (coming in Nov) were open to anyone with a Toyota/Lexus and free.
Toyotas in the Park last year had over 200 cars on display, when we had approximately 50 members, so there were definitely non-members involved.
So, you're welcome to any of our events, unless we suddenly decide to hold a members-only event (which I'm not aware of). And you can choose whether or not to become a paid-up member based on your interest in involvement. Toymods is not really any different, you can choose to become a member and gain access to further benefits, but still be involved without doing so.

Gene

Just to make people aware, there are legal reasons why a club such as TECCWA exists as an actual legal entity rather than just a group of people. It means the club has legal responsibilities in how it elects Committee members, the activities it undertakes and the management of funds raised through it's activities. It is another legal construct, just like a company or an actual individual person, and so can get insurance, own things, has it's own bank accounts, etc.
Without such, it would be virtually impossible to obtain Public Liability Insurance or Motorsport Permits/Insurance. Such things are necessary when wanting to run our own motorsport events or hire venues such as Langley Park, where councils, etc. insist on insurance, etc. Likewise, this is what the combination of membership fees, entry fees, etc. goes towards funding, while trying to provide benefits to paid-up members to actually make it worth their joining.
This is what has motivated people who wanted to establish a Toyota-oriented car club in WA.
