Default What oil should i run in built 7mgte?

Currently run Shell Helix Plus 15-50W semi synthetic oil in my built 7mgte.

This motor will see high temps, 6500rpm, lots of boost and lots of oil pressure.

What are your recomendations? Stick with current oil or change to a different grade?

Motor makes an interesting rattle upon first cranking like there isnt enough oil (too thin?)

that statup noise is typical for a tractor engine..... basically its the engine moving whilst the pump builds up pressure.

If you've ever hand turned one of those pumps, it takes quite a few rotations before the oil starts coming out the top!

Stick with the 15W-50.... but come and get some Gulf Western. You know it's cheap

Yeah, that'll do it, but if you really want to handle high-heats, go to a genuine fully synth, BelRay or RedLine for example. Search for the oils thread, it should still be in the top 2 pages of techs and conversions, there's some good info there.

    Forged pistons?

I've generally always gone with Motul oils for high temp/high rev stuff, such as the Competition and Chrono ones. Around $90 per 4L bottle full retail though
Even then, I blended them together to get exactly the oil I was after. Seemed to work well too.

As we all know its a matter of personal opinion and personal preference.

I`ve always used the Repsol Elite Competicion 5w-40 in all my 7M`s , although its not easy to source for some , I can get it for you for $50 and whatever to freight to you.

I'm using BelRay semi-synth in my car, and I'll be going to the fully synth when I turbo (just because changing oil every 5000kms is a pain when you do 500km a week) I can get this for a pretty rediculous price, and I can get the fully synth for $65 (retail $125)

I can only assume forged pistons as the seller claimed in engrish that the motor has 'oversized pistons'.

Thanks for the advice guys, i think the 5w is a little too thin for my liking though 1200det.

I am changing my oil every 5000km, yet this oil change will be my 3rd inside 3000km, purely based on the fact i can easily get at the oil filter atm and want to run with a better oil.

    Might go the penrite HPR15.
