Why? They have been extremely public from Day One that this was a joint effort between the two companies. It's no different to seeing Aisin stamped on a gearbox (which I'm sure will be on the 86 gearbox somewhere because it is an Aisin box) or Yamaha on the side of a G-series head. Separate Subaru the brand and Subaru the manufacturing company and it makes more sense.

Yes it does require the engine to be lifted to change the plugs, and before you ask yes i have worked on one.
All the people saying they are different drivelines and motors have got it wrong, the BRZ and 86 come out of the same factory and have different badges a bumper cover and a few interior pieces but other than that they are identical.
