Default ford transit 2JZ - wiring question

    hi guys
    1st post ...............

    i'm 90% through fitting a 2JZGTE into my Transit

    here's the van

and a little video of when i 1st got it running

    http://youtu.be/s2lwc_mXxhI

ive been sneaking bits of info off this forum - as there seems to be plenty of genius's on here especially wilbo666 you've saved me hours of head scratching!!! BIG thanks

although the engine is running my wiring is a mess - ive just took the whole loom from the donor aristo and chopped out what i know i dont need and the rest is still there

this is my wiring before it went in - i'd like to tidy it up some more

does anyone know if i can chop out the fuse box in the lower left of the picture - as i've still got a few wires attached - but ive not seen it in anyone elses pictures.

also when i had the donor car neither the rev counter or the cruise control worked, now ive fitted it all into my van i've noticed the dash cluster says GS300 on it, so i guess its a 2nd hand one from a breakers, ive read that the GE clocks wont work with a GTE is that right?

is this likely to be my problem and will it also cause my cruise control not to work (as i'd like to have that on the van too) if it is my problem is there any way i can get round it? or is it a new set of clocks i need?

and what part of the clocks does the cruise control need to work right?

    thanks for any help

Correct in the GE cluster tacho wont work without modification on a GTE (needs a resistor soldered in I believe, then it will work. (Have a search on SupraForums.com.au, pretty sure there is a write up on there)
Dont think cruise requires tacho signal to function, but does need a speed signal (pink wire at the ECU from memory) as cruise wont hook in without a speed reference, plus signals from the auto select switch (so it knows when its in gear) and trans solenoids (I think it reads top gear engagement from that, not 100% sure)
I've been scratching my head for ages to get cruise working after a manual conversion, so far without success

u just need to trick cruise ecu when u go manual plus fit clutch switch

i would find correct diagrams for the 2j and the dash
    then rewire whole thing properly
that looks like my dogs dinner hehehe

u only need 3 or 4 relays to get everythign working on motor and fans
then just repower dash from old transit wiring
spend some time once u get correct diagrams and start fresh
stripping one wire at a time is a painful jon
so its easier to cut dash completely away from body harness and rewire
fit resistor or tacho boosteer and tacho will work

Sorry, should have mentioned, swap to manual included a full manual loom and ECU...are the wires for the clutch switch in the loom? Or do I need to find appropriate wires on the cruise ECU and wire to a clutch switch? (Car is a late MA70, 7M-GTE converted R154) I did look up under the dash for wires for a clutch switch, but couldnt see any?

just join into the brake switch signal to the cruise so it goes from ign i think
then thru brake switch then thru clutch switch then to cruise ecu
dont use the brake wires for the brake lights

also i found on a ma61 many years ago the cruise would not work below 50 kph or somewhere round there
so when u do test it make sure u r going fatser than that

In regards to the fuse box, you can get rid of it, but you need to know what the wires coming out do so that you can hook them up somehow.
I'm doing a conversion from a car with a big fusebox like that only.
The fusebox is just clipped together (the clps on the side) & then you'll find several layers of hardwired inside. Alternatively, with a bit of patience with a multimeter you can do the same thing.
Trace them to the fuse you need & then what ignition source that fuse has (eg permanent, accessory, on, start).
Then you can either find a similar fuse on your existing fusebox to hook into, or a better bet would be get a fuseblock from an auto parts store or motorsport supplier and make you own fusebox.

Hmmm...thanks, will check out the TSRM wiring for it...the brake is already hooked into the cruise wiring, theoretically the lack of an additional switch on the clutch should not stop cruise engaging (at over 50km/h), but it wont engage? (light on dash comes on to chow its on, but won't engage and activate the cruise control actuator?)

thanks for the replies i agree it looks like a dogs dinner its getting tidied up tho

i have kept the A340 autobox - but i've done away with the floor stick and fitted a column shift of a previa

i will have a search on SupraForums.com.au for the resistor mod - once its all working i plan to build a custom dash using after market gauges as i think the cluster looks too modern

    Sorry for Hijacking the thread...

    no worries

the cosworth was runnng 200bhp ish standard and i was planning to fit twin turbos, built the manifolds and everything but i costed it up and by the time i'd messed about with engine managment and low comp pistons etc. i thought it would be cheaper to fit a 2JZ
the JZ is leagues better an engine (still loved the cossy tho) the main thing i prefer on the cossy is its a ford engine in a ford van

but the main thing was getting a gearbox strong enough - i had an MT75 on the cossy and it destroyed it in 3000miles and a T5 box would have put the stick too far back for a van plus i fancied an auto in it

my cousin has a transit with a cossy turbo YB engine in that i built with him http://fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=26031 thats quite a nice van too but 4cyls and 2000cc is always gonna struggle against 6cyls and 3000cc

Wow, didn't know there was such a market for the Transit, but they look sexy when done right ;P Not like all the noobs that buy white Toyota Hiace workvans and lower them and tint the tail lights... And don't worry about the Toyota engine in a Ford, It's not as bad as a Chevy in a Ford or a Nissan in a Toyota, that's my opinion anyways ;P hehe

Good luck with it mate! It's looking sick!
