Default Standalone Management, what is now not needed in engine bay?

    Hello peoples,

I thought it would be a good idea to ask this,

If you have got any kind of aftermarket engine management systems running that powerplant under the hood, besides the air flow meter and its associated wires, and maybe ignition changes, I'm just wondering what some people have done with other toyota factory parts that are now not used anymore especially in regards to the 1ggte and any of the factory ecu old wires and there components?

If you have changed to a full standalone and have removed something or altered or changed anything! form original to run with the new computer and modifications like pehaps even new complete wireing loom? Please just post up it will be interesting to share some ideas.

    Cheers

I think what's needed or not depends on user preference and also the standalone itself, i.e whether it has the ability to work with said parts..
For example, i control my 4A-GTE with Megasquirt 1 and i see no use for the cold start injector located on the intake plenum.. I end up replacing it with IAT sensor since it think that's the best spot to monitor air temperature.
Another example is the stepper motor idle valve.. MS1 don't have the ability to control it so obviously it's no longer needed.

I'm not sure if i helped answer your question? It's very broad IMHO.

Not really sure what you are asking either. First thing to get rid of would be air flow meter if in my books. Map sensor and IAT sensore have the information needed.

more just conversation really i think, not asking any specific question but its still tech talk hehe, my link has got a built in map sensor and is closed loop lambda, its using the factory stepper motor idle valve.

"Ballpensil" How do you control your idle without the stepper motor valve output on your megasquirt? Thats one of the ones i was thinking about and yes, the cold start injector this can be removed and replaced with iat sensor, Does it control cold start idles better as well? The link has imputs/outputs to run those.

    Cheers

    On my 7M with Microtech,

I have no cold start, no airflow, no idle control motor, no injector resistor.
No egr, most of the anti pollution crap, run a catch can...
What is in left in the bay needs to be there.

If it doesn't need to be in the bay its gone or buried in my guards...

My car doesn't like sub 10 deg starts but it gets there. When it’s warm it starts and idles no problem. Not bad considering the ECU is essentially only controlling 3 cylinders (wasted spark and injector fires) and it has massive injectors.

Also as the car wasn't injected from factory there is no fuse box in the engine bay. I have installed a fuse box for the head lights and thermos. The fuse box and relays are buried in the airbox out of sight.

    TheStitt,

That sounds pritty cool, its a good idea to get rid of it if its not really needed, i also will be considering... If it doesn't need to be in the bay its gone or buried in my guards... just like you say! Plus its just extra weight the can be taken off too 30-40 lbs it doesnt really need to be lugging around as far as i'm concerned and it all mounts up.

Yep i've got wasted spark ignition control too and big injectors, obviously the cold idle can still be controlled with a little bit of throttle anyway which isnt to hard.
