Nope, they have to be the same or greater voltage, or they will fail. I like to make sure they are 105 degree rated too, for longer life.

Unfortunately, the capacitors sold at Jaycar are cheap rubbish (to put it lightly), YMMV but I never use them for critical applications.

Why does this forum keep unsubscribing me from my threads when I post to them on my mobile?!?
What I meant to say was does the circuitry actually require them to be such a high voltage, or did they just throw in 35Vers at the factory coz that's what they could get their hands on at the time? I mean, if RS Components has them in that voltage or higher I'll use them anyway, but I'm just saying...
I'll take your word for it and get some better ones from RS.

PM me your address and a list of what caps you need. I'll sort you out so you don't need to buy 5 of each value from RS (minimum order quantities etc).

The voltage range selected could have been just what was cheapest at the time, but it could also be due to ripple voltage or current needing the higher value to cope. Best bet is to use the same voltage or higher just to be safe.

Haha, ummm, I think I found the problem boys...

The fuel tank cover was very dodgyly placed down with nothing but that sticky stuff that sticks the plastic onto the inside of door panels behind the trim, and doesn't even look like the right one for my car LOL. Alas, the wiring was also very dodgyly placed and snagging on the sharp edge. A good dose of electrical tape around the individual wires and the whole length of that particular loom took care of that. And then there was this...

Yep, that dish is only a few millimetres deep. And that was only the start. Seeing that my dodgy Ebay replacement filter from the UK wasn't made properly (lesson learned) I couldn't get it to stop leaking on the inlet side, so I had to reverse flush the old filter out as best I could with carby cleaner just to get back on the road. Don't suppose anyone knows where I could get a cheap filter from that will actually fit properly? Otherwise I'll just focus on getting the 20V back on the road and selling this one, which I should be doing anyway LOL...

We'll see in a few days how much difference it makes...

FWIW, I just bought a Genuine Toyota filter for my 20v Levin today for $71.20 + GST, trade price.

Good to see you found the problem, and it was a simple one in the end.

    Typically
Let that be a lesson to everyone, always start with the basics before you go doing any further exploration. The reason I didn't was that I figured "the filter looks pretty shiny under that little bit of dirt, it probably was replaced not long ago". REPLACE IT ANYWAY!!!
A few days on and still no issues to report, will keep you all posted either way though...

Already have on the 165/70R13's in the wet, some unintentionally
Let's see how she goes when I reset the timing to 10deg though, that will be the ultimate test. Plus I'll be replacing the caps in the ECU anyway, might as well now that I have them...
