Question Solex carb 'Shell' turned into ITB's?

I had a thought while looking at ITB's for my 18RG... How hard would it be to make some Independent Throttle Bodies using the body of some Solex carbs and getting holes bored for the injectors?

I figured you could take out all the internals except for the butterfly's, make a fuel rail then have the holes bored into the carbs bodies (or manifold) and it would look relatively "stock".

Thoughts and suggestions? =) I'm not familiar with EFI so this was all guess work in my head.

You would have to weld bosses on to be able to have enough material to add the injectors....unless you added them to the manifold instead. (as you mentioned but they might not have enough meat too)

You would also need to plug any other holes in the carb not needed. Probably work out less hassle and similar cost to just buy new ITB's.

gutting the carbys easy would need to mount injector bosses underneath manifold for stealth look a bit of work and a lot of screwing about but something to that could look sweet

What if I do the work myself though? Then it'd be cheaper then buying new ITB's ;P
Trying to go for kind of a "stock carby" look and also DIY to save Dollars.

How would one go about plugging the holes, would soldering or welding be okay?

Sorry but are the injector bosses the 'holes' the injectors go into? I'm know nothing about EFI, only carbies...

The bosses are raised areas that the injecters to. You can buy them from EFI hardware suppliers with the right profile for an injector to seal inside it and weld them wherever they are needed.

Not sure about soldering the holes. You could braze them. You could take the manifold and the carbie bodies to an aluminium specialist / engineering shop and get them welded.

Unless you have these skills, you're going to end up spending more than an off the shelf EFI set up.

You still need a computer, wiring, sensor's, electric fuel pump, regulator and whatever else i've forgotten.

Maybe start researching DIY EFI set ups if your still keen on giving it a go

I'm mainly keen on doing due to not finding an 18RG EFI setup =/

What else needs to be done to the manifold and carbs besides blocking holes and welding the bosses in? Like do I need other ports for anything else?

I'll try searching DIY EFI though, thanks =)

Yeah they look good ;P but they don't come with everything, I'd rather buy a kit with all the necessities and DIY the ITB's

I think there might of been a write up on that in Street Machine magazine a few editions back
