Default Hilux v6 conversion wiring headaches

    Hey All,

    So just convered a 95 RN85 hilux to a v6 from a commodore.
All went fine, engine is running and laying plenty of rubber but I can't get the tail lights, parking lights, brake lights or dash illumination to work.

I'm going mental. It seem when testing with multimeter that both wires to parking lights are earthed. Obviously I've checked all fuses etc etc.

I am really in need of a diagram of sorts as I've spent hours and am stumped.

I've checked for earth leaks in rear half but there are none. Any pointers clues?

    Cheers

    Andrew

rip out the commodore v6 and everything should work fine again hehehe

reason u r getting earths is feedback thru the globes
hiluxes have a seperate fuse for the parkers
this will show ground until parkers are on so this means the parker fuse is not live all the time
only when parker switch is turned on
so find the fuse and if it has no power when parkers on then work your way back towards the switch
its prob a 20 minute fix if u knwo what to do

Yeah well whole conversion cost less than $800 I admit there a dinosaur v6 and I'd love a 1j but i've double the power plus a manual box and cheap replacement motors. But obviously if I had the money a 1j or 1uz would have been used.

I was testing parkers with rear loom unplugged and both front parkers off so no continuity through globes was possible, in this setup with lights in every position concieavable they remained in continuity. I've now dismantled the fuse box in the kick panel as I suspect moisture damage, but I may well be pissing in the wind.

I'll trace the parker wiring, difficulty is that its wires are white/black and green which are fairly common and as they are earthed there hard to trace.

Are the parkers on the same circuit as the dash lights and tail lights?

    Cheers

Yes they are.. Shoot me a PM with your e-mail addy and I'll send you some wiring diagrams. They're for a 4runner/Surf but for all intensive purposes the same. Yet with all electrical problems it will be something small and stupid that takes ages to find

Thanks for the diagram, it was similar and enough for me to work out where there should have been power and wasn't. 30 minutes looking and thinking about it last night and 5 minutes this morning.

There was a positive terminal on the opposite side of the engine bay (to the battery) that I believe ran wires to the alternator. I powered up a white cable running of that and everything works as normal.

I'll throw us some conversion pics.

Its not a bad swap for a hilux, cheap simple motors, 5speeds are cheap enough too. Fits well and plenty of torque for a lux. Enough goo to slide well also. And to be honest I'm not sure hiluxes are deserving of a 1j. There crudely built and somewhat agricultural in my opinion but as a work vehicle there ok.
