    Back with a brief update:

    MR2 to FWD S54 conversion write-up completed here: http://toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8320

I'm currently orgaising the engine/gearbox re-installation; with any luck we'll be back on the road in July!

The first update in a while! The charitable Peter Costello dropped by to help get the ball rolling, bringing with him the engine hoist that will very soon be lifting the engine and gearbox back into the car.

The engine, flywheel, clutch and gearbox is all assembled and I ended up going with my ST162 clutch and pressure plate and an SW20 flywheel. I sourced ST184 clutch parts because it was rumoured that they were slightly larger and would suit the 2nd gen 3S-GE better, providing better grab. However, a session with the tape measure deduced that both clutch and pressure plate were the same size and the ST162 clutch was "a poof-teenth" heavier than the ST184 item.

The MR2 coolant return and temperature housing has been swapped over for an ST185 item, which points everything back in the right direction. I'll update with some photos of that process shortly. With the right know how, the process will save a lot of work later.

A few service tasks were carried out on the car; new fuel and oil filters fitted (peice of cake with the engine out) and a new set of spark plugs that will go in shortly.

    Next tasks!

It turns out my rear engine mount is shagged; looking at my options for the cheapest way to replace it.

When Mr Costello says jump, you ask "how high?" on the way up!

Today I will be unpacking my garage stuff after moving and will post some updates shortly.

Hey Blake! The water junction I sourced from a gen 2 3S-GTE (to suit my gen 2 engine) made the swap painless - take one part off and fit another. I can't remember if the gen 1 item fit or not, so I can't say if I did it the best way or not...

Some phone camera shots from last weekend, spent re-assembling all the accessories.

    Next tasks:

    • Source 'ST' model front-mounted aircon fan, as SX model fan fouls with the gen 2 factory headers.
    • Source vacuum connector for power steering pump (my block leant over on it and cracked my stock one).
    • Source pin for shift linkage
    • Get busy with the service manuals and plan out vacuum & coolant hoses

are you using the gen one wiring or having it coverted ? if using the gen 1 stuff what did you do to get the gen 2 intake to play sexytime

i was thinking of just putting the gen 1 intake on for ease but the gen 2 just looks so sexy :O

Plan to use all gen 2 wiring, might have to get some custom wiring from the gen 2 ECU into the dash... but I'm not sure.

Gen 1 intake manifold would be a lot simpler, saving you the time/cost of the wiring job - which could be quite significant. I wanted to get the most out of my gen 2 engine, so running the improved head and ECU was important to me. Warrior/Karl has done two swaps now using the complete gen 2 setup, but most others I've seen use the gen 1 intake manifold.

i have had a good look and i think i will be able to use the gen 2 intake while retaining the gen 2 intake and bolting the gen one TPS and butterfly onto the gen 2 intake.

are you using the gen 2 ecu? If so, why are you using the gen 1 TPS?

just going to confirm for you,
you can use a gen 2 intake, with a gen 1 loom and ecu,
    it works i know

you have to swap all the sensors over from the gen 1, as well as fuel rail and injectors .
