    Default RT142 Questions plz help!!!!!!!!

    Hey Guys

I am new to this forum but have had coronas scince i got my licence
I at the moment have an 86 corona rt142 with the irs back end. i want to make a decent little track car out of it as i live 10mins from winton raceway in vic.
so far i have done the s13 front end conversion stripped the inside of the car put some race seats in and got myself a decent turbo setup for the car (waiting on ecu)

What i need to know is:
The rt142 gearbox is a w55? strong box or shitbox?
how strong are the diffs? its an f series right?
what gears do they run and is there any different choices in diff gears out there?
what conversion can i do to the back end to get good suspension and brakes under it?

i would really appreciate any help and feedback you guys could provide

    Cheers Brendan

it will more than likely have a w58, not as strong as a MA70 W58 but still strong as all fark.
Diff is F series, 7.5 " crown wheel. Spools available or just weld it. heaps of ratios available.

S13 rear cradle can be fitted with some fabrication.

so have you any more detailed info on how much work is involved with the s13 cradle installation.
im thinking this is the way to go definetly.

does the frame bolt straight to the rt 142 or is that where mods are needed
do the f series diff bolt to the s13 cradle or is that where mods are needed

Need to find more info before i go spending me coin?

By the way i appreciate the reply to celicasupra7m

    Hi mate

The box will almost certainly be a W58. You will not break it except through missed gearchanges, or massive abuse... and even in the latter case if you are breaking traction then it will almost certainly be fine. Personally I'd get a spare W55/57/58 just in case, and that way you don't have to pay top-dollar in the event that you do break yours and you need one on short notice.

These are a very competent little car, although I gotta say that intercooler sticking out the front looks ridiculous

std ratios are 3.6 i think, cressida 4.11 diffs can be easily had, spools or weld or even altezza lsd can be made to fit, also cressidas/ma61 supras have ventilated disks on the back that are straight bolt in as far as im aware, sold rear cradle mounds are available on serialnine or just make your own, can slot/weld the mount or make new mounts all together for the outside trailing arm to get camber adjustment

haha shifty ya not wrong it looks terrible old pics its definitely not there now!
I will get some new pics up if ya want mate Ive made a few changes since that photo up top!
I Have got a spare w58 sitting in my other parts car so thats a win.

Really appreciate the reply's though fellas might chuck a spooled cressida 4:11 diff in it if ya reckon that will fit maccac__1590.
The cresida rear discs are they a bigger diameter and do you need calipers as well?

Yeah there's heaps of room in the front of these things to tuck a cooler up out of sight.

sorry not sure on how to mount the rear cradle, it was done to a RA65 drift car on the mainland, doubt there was a build thread for that car tho.

i think the cradle is different, a bit wider and the axle shafts are longer, but the diff itself is identical, just different ratio and i think the arms are the same, the brakes im not sure but i would assume you would need the cressy calliper too and one would assume that they would bolt up fine, just get some measurements for calliper bolts spacing, disk size ect and go to the wreckers and sus it out on a cressy
