    Hello
Supra 2 is on the money, it will have heaps of crud at the bottom of the cylinders that unfortunatly doesn't come out with a flush, you need to use a screwdriver when the head is off to dislodge all the gritty gunk while flowing water thru the block .

definately sounds like the crud in the block has gone and blocked your reconditioned radiator.take off your hoses and thermostat flush system with a good amount of water.Fire hose works great.if you want to get really thorough, take your welsh plugs out and flush crud out from there, use a magnet on a stick helps with the large bits.
all the best hope you get it sorted the m motors don't really like too much overheating.

Stuff in the bottom of the waterjacket around the cylinders does very little if anything towards overheating.
Heat is all in the head & top of the block, relatively next to nothing is generated down there.
Breaking loose that shit & doing a half-ass job of cleaning it out is almost guaranteed to clog the radiator.

My 5ME was pushing water out the over flow after it had fully warmed up and when placed under load. I ended up putting new Radiator, thermostat and flushed for ages still no joy.

It ended up being the Head gaskit.

See if you can do a TK test.

Thanks for the help and advice I think after alot of flushing and water changes I have managed to get it running a stable temp now, I put a stocking over the thermostat outlet which filtered out a load of scale

When you mention it being hot under load does it also act like this under AC? Mine sky rocketed, but a nice 2" radiator and auto trans cooler helped a lot as long as air con was off. If I had kept it Id probably want to ensure an undertray to force air correctly, a better fan shroud to force air, and a replaced efficient air condensor fan (if thats the right name). Let us know if you solve it completely, always good to know..

Seems theres so many ways a 5ME will overheat, but it will never die completely..
