find the tha wire at the ecu
measure the voltage to ground
should be between 1 to 2 v
if it is then air temp signal is fine
whats yr air flow part number end in
010 or 011 or 111
Mick I have a 91 soarer engine and engine management system in my surf and went thru this a while back. Mine is wired up how it was in the Saorer and like your 'Lux does not have the fuel pump ECU but doesn't throw a code for it. Now not knowing how yours is wired up I hazzard a guess that it has logged the AFM codes from you running the engine with that unplugged. I even tried other AFMs in mine to no avail and did the basics such as plugs and leads, rotors and caps which did cure it from the "Miss and stumble" for a while.
Now we also chased the same problem on an LS400 for a while giving the same symptoms as well as a huge power loss (something that I never really noticed). Funny thing was they only ever faulted when hot. And also under load, light throttle not a problem.
After a few beers one evening it was duly decided to try some brand new coils on both rather than used ones known to be good. Fortunately Repco were still open and had two in stock ($60 each thank you and use what is listed for the aus delivered LS400). Well what do you know? problem solved and on each vehicle the L/H coil was the issue with heat build up being mounted by the A/C compressor.

24 & 31 codes appearing together mean two things:
1 - no power (positive or negative) to afm
2 - wrong afm type
Write part ## of afm and ecu here, I would check then if they are compatible.
In european 1995 ls400, maf ground wire shares same connector with other ground wires - but it's up to you to connect corresponding pins. So check if your maf receives ground

Hi there Mik08. It seems we have done t he same swap about the same time and have the same or similar problem.
I have tried an another afm, new coils, 2nd ecu, power feeds shorts circuits and everything else I coil think of. I hate to be beaten!
Question, What wire on which plug is the w wire?
1uz out of a93 celsoir.into a surf.
Hi, my ute is still not fixed and I have been running it in limp home mode(AFM disconnected) for months now, it's not the best caus it's a very rich fuel setting and is hard to start on a cold morning, I can tell you the W wire when I can get a spare minute, hopefully Sunday as I gotta work tomoro, I take it you have the eng diag plug but not the dash one? It's quite easy to flash the codes out on a test light, I have looked at the ecu board and it seems the capacitors have leaked that electrolyte shit from about three different ones, I was going to get those changed b4 I did anything else caus I really have got the shits with it ATM. Mine is from a 91 soarer, have you got just the one ecu?
Diagnosing shit like this is a big pain in the butt
Best of hooking a diagnostic plug to it and scanning it for live data
Also hook a fuel pressure gauge to it too
All cars can have similar probs but fixes are totally different
Thats y it's so hard to fix issues thru forums
It's ok testing replacement parts on your car
But nothing is ans good as testing your parts on a perfectly running car
Which makes it hard
But how do I know how well the parts r that u have borrowed
Anyway things like this take ages to solve sometimes
And when u spend 2 or 3 days on it how the fk do charge 1500 bucks
That's y no one will touch shit like this
And that's y I don't look at anything like this unless guys know the implications
And that it might not be a 200 or 300 dollar fix
I've got some spare ecus and air flows and did have igniters but they got sold
Think I have some leads left but half the time shit just accumulates and I end up throw in them in the bin
I might be interested in a spare ecu.... How much? I'm in brissie.
My ecu is the one with 3 plugs with 2 rows of wires
And a fourth plug afew mms over and upside down. With two rows of wires
I think ecu might be sold with an up and coming 1uz wiring job
So will wait and see
Other ecu is uzz30 1uz I think
Not sure about air flow as I need to check part number
Anyway any ecu with leaking caps needs to be repaired ASAP
And even if it's been repaired and car still runs poor I would not trust ecu
Until u test it on perfectly running car
Repairing ecus is hit n miss
There is no easy way to test em except plug em into good car
24 and 31 codes brought together almost always mean wrong AFM type. Check ECU and AFM part numbers
