have you tried it on the ground yet? maybe when the arm comes up it will clear.
Anyone running JIC upper camber arms and coilovers on their A70 or Z20? I've just been reassembling my front end and it looks like the JIC arms foul on the bottom of my tien coilovers. I don't think the base is much lower or wider then standard springs and shocks, so am I missing something?
They are marked L and R, both slightly different offset of the balljoint, tried both on the same side and they still seam to foul.
SO guru's am I missing something or do JIC upper camber arms and Tien coilovers not mix? If not, what coil overs are you successfully running with your JIC upper camber arms?
Pics:
L on the passengers side (correct way round).
Showing the offset differences of the balljoints.
R on the Passengers side

Nup I haven't. If you check out the third pic (clicking will enlarge it) you can see it touching at that angle. It's honestly not much further up then 80-90deg. call me a pessimist but I think even if it's not touching once on the ground, it will as soon as I hit a bump.
I'm actually hoping that I'm wrong (run out of time to drop it tonight) and some one who has a similar setup will pipe up with either a solution or to tell me that it's fine.
Are these SOOO rare that no one else on here has them??
Please chime in!![]()
On a side note, the lower arms have been out and back in again. Is it possible that I need to wind the camber out in the lower arms to get the proper clearance? I can't imagine how it could help, but its worth an ask!
quite rare indeed but i know disterbed and thor each have a set.
actually got 2 pairs slipway
had i seen this thread earlier could have posted pics as i relocated one of my sets between cars yesterday.
im running aragosta and cusco zero 2s here and no problems. they deff dont sit evenly around the coilovers but mine have a good 10mm gap on one side (and alot more on the other)
adjusting camber wont make any diff on the clearance.
pretty sure the clearance wont change irrespective if the car is on axle stands/slammed on ground or when you hit a bump.

TEINS are shitty dude
get some BC's or newer style coilovers. or try someone elses that arnt teins to see if they fit, surely someone from z20soarer.org is near to you !?
my mate has the cusco zero2 and these in his car
i didnt like the cuscos compared to the tiens but it might be where your issue lies...
Thanks guys!
Disturbed1, could you do me a favour and measure a couple of widths of either of your coilovers? If I can confirm thats the issue then I can work out a plan to deal with it. If its not then I'm back to square one!
My Teins measure, from top down:
105mm ish - Spring
90mm - upper spring seat
77mm - lock nut
58mm - outer thread
51mm - shock
Coffee, Not on z20, might have to jump on and ask about. I *MIGHT* have access to a stock one, if I get time on the weekend I'll have a dig. Also why the Tien hate? I thought they were supposed to be the best "amateur" coilover?
Got a recommendation on something to change over to? I have heard mixed reviews on most coil overs so I'm at a bit of loss where to start.
This guy on ebay (WA way) claims to be able to custom build coil overs: Sounds good but I don't know whether I want to trust some rando off ebay...
COILOVERS Toyota SUPRA JZA70 JZA80 MA70 GA70 2JZ 1JZ | eBay
for that price it sounds like a good deal, 1 years warrenty and built to your requirements.. otherwise my BC racing coilies i bought of john are the sex! 10x better than my old HKS coilovers
I'm bumping this back up because I need to get this rolling and the issue is not the JIC arms but something else. OH toymod tech gurus please hear my pleas!
So I got some new stock arms, tried them and I have the same fouling issue. Seams there is something else wrong. My first thought was that I've put the bushes in the wrong way around. I have just pressed them out, check the bushing numbers (they are right btw) but swapped them over anyway, why not? It's still not working this way either. Same issue. So I have to ask WTF have I done wrong??
What I have done: A mate of mine disassembled the front end for me while I worked on the engine (working bee), but I should mention he forgot to mark the camber, no biggy I thought. Powder coated the lower arms. new poly bushes. new upper arms, new ball joints, new inner and outer tie rods. So its a scratch rebuild I guess you could say.
It all seams pretty straight forward. What have I fkd up? I have double checked a lot against a spare front cross member I have (camber bolts etc) but seriously spell it out for me like I know nothing cos I have clearly missed something obvious and major.
Cheers!
Just interested whether you found the problem or not mate?
Haha yeah it was me being a dick and over thinking it. Been working on a 29, 50 and recently a 68, so when I got back to the modern supra I got myself mixed up. In hind sight I think the jic's would of been fine too. live an learn.
