    Default Tidying up wiring

    Hi guys,

Just wanted some advice or experiences people have had with stripping unnecessary wires out of looms. After a 6 year hiatus I am starting to work on my RA28 again, and am undoing the rushed job I did back then. Part of this is minimising the wiring in the engine bay. Am I tempting fate by trimming the loom back of connectors which aren't necessary for the engine to run? I imagine the best way to start would be to work backwards from superfluous connectors and trace them back to the ECU plugs, and trim them off leaving a bit of a tail?

    Cheers,

    Matt

Best piece of advice is that if possible have a wiring diagram handy in case of any stuff ups. Have a multimeter with long leads and some picks to unclip terminals from terminal blocks (much tidier than cutting a wire and leaving a "Tail"), test lamp, heat shrink so where a "tail" must be left you can put a bit over the end of the wire and obviously insulation tape (electrical wholesaler is the best place to buy that). Check twice before cutting and another thing to think about is are there any accessories you may like to fit that can use any of the redundant wiring? this bit is probably more relevant in a 4wd or touring vehicle but worth a thought. This is how I approach 1UZ wireups..

And yes you're on the right track

Cheers mate, good advice. I was going for the leaving a tail approach just in case I wasn't careful enough in checking, but picking them out of the block would be neater. Also would make me doubly sure of any removal, haha.
