    Default 3sge carby mod

Hi all. I'm new to this forum, and have recently purchased a Blacktop 3SGE (N/A) with the intention of puting it into a race boat. I previously ran a 4AGE which was a great little goer. I'm everseas and I have a few questions perhaps someone with previous experience can answer. Whilst I have bought the engine, its now in a shed waiting for me.

Keep in mind we never run less than about 5500rpm on a circuit track so low down torque is not really a factor. I currently have MSD ignition set up and would like to try and use that if possible.

Will puting 45mm weber carbs with say 40mm chokes improve response and flow over stock plenum and electronic set up. For us simple = reliable (on water)
If we go that way, how do we lock up the vvti
will a 4age flywheel fit as we are trying to minimise the depth of the whole set up to fit down low in the boat.
We will be replacing the alloy skirt and I believe the oil pump is in there. Ideas for simple sump and Oil delivery???? In the 4age we had it in the end casing.

Any other ideas you may come up with are appreciated. Something perhaps a bit different to your usual threads, I look forward to any feedback and thanks in advance.

fwiw, Neal Bates appears to be using 50mm carbs in his 3SGE rally RA40 (gen1 head, later model block & sump, ¬13:1 compression, other unknown goodies).

I have seen a blacktop converted to non-vvti but that involved new cams and adjustable pulleys. Given that you'll be operating in revs where the ECU would normally be rotating the cams a bit, I'd suggest you consider new cams and manually adjustable gear at the front.

4A flywheel won't fit- wrong bolt pattern on the back of the crank.

You will have to run ECU-controlled ignition - there's no dizzi only a crank and cam sensors for timing. They come with individual coil-on-plug ignition.

Thanks thechuster. My hope is (provided I haven't bitten off more than I can chew) to keep the hole thing simple and cheap. I want to run all the standard mechanical bits but I'm not sure now if that is even possible.
I wanted to run it on my MSD which I already have set up for the 4age and so be able to swap engines for different races. Not sure that is achievable either. Weight is an issue, and part of my end game is mimimum weight. Current 4age set up has fabricated inlets with 45 mm SD Webers. Very light and very simple and the 4age runs like a dream. We set up the dizzy at 32degrees advance and leave it as we never race less than about 5500rpm. Is anything like this set up possible in these more advanced engines?

I'm gathering info as I go so thankyou for any input here.

Maybe sell this one off and buy an earlier model 3s with dizzy, non-vvti and go from there?
