how available are bearings and synchros? Does anyone have an idea on what it would cost to freshen a box, vauge i know lol. Yeah i thought geear sets are expensive just was wondering.
I cant remember the exact oil name i was using when i ran a syncro box but its like VMX or LSX or something.... one of those will be diff oil!, check with your local parts dealer or gbox shop, repco was able to look it up for me
i run a thicker synthetic for the dog set

PS. bearings all have a fare bit of play at the best of times so i wouldnt get too worried about them unless they rattle and rumble quite badly, i would look at doing the input shaft bearing anyway its only about $40
hmmm VMX, sounds like what i use. Castoral VMX 80 ( i think thats correct)

1jzracing: Im would also like to know what you used to get the rear lay shaft bearing off with?????
There is only about 4mm of clearence there and 9 out of 10 pullers wont fit behind it

I get all my bearings for next to nothing so I think I will change them all just to be safe!
Brother works at SKF![]()
Ive got some of the grey sealer works a treat.
Cheers fellas
yeah it is a good idea to change them even if its only for piece of mind ! thats what i did!![]()

that is STRANGE!! ... cos i have pulled apart quite a few and none had gaskets i dont know if they were W58's or W57's but a couple were straight from an importer and never been apart b4
i guess $250 is all relative i thought it wasnt too bad for about 6 bearings .... compared to $4500 for a dog set!
yeah you can get gaskets from toyota. but like you said the sealer will do the trick!

Hmmm ..... got me thinking i just used my little gear puller AFAI can remember wasnt too hard to get it in ... i cant remember having any trouble with it anyhowOriginally Posted by 30psi 4agte
the only one a bit tricky was the 5th barrel off the lay shaft as there is a little tin cover on the back and the puller would crush it if you pulled straight on it so ether slip in a little shim between the barrel and cover or try to get the puller on the tips only
PS . I think putting gaskets in a box designed to bolt up neat would upset all the end float clearences !!!
Double hmmmmmmmm i dont remember anything like that little piece of tin !!! lol![]()
Stupid question but you def have a w58 ?

I dont think it would make that much diff though
