Default Which way should i go about tunning my 1JZ

Hey guys im new to Toymods,

    At the moment i own a 180sx, with a JZA70 1JZ conversion done.

It current has a cat-back exhaust and a front mount cooler and also came out with a mines computer.

I have budgeted all my money for a single turbo conversion. I have bought a turbonetics t60-1 with only a .7 exhaust housing and also got a turbosmart 48mm pro gate.

After taking into account prices for install i have around $1000 remaining for tunning.

At the moment i am only aiming for smaller numbers (around the 220-230rwkw) so i can get used to the power delivery of this turbo. Now my question is where would my money be best spent so that i can get this car tuned for good power. keep in mind i have a mines computer at the moment so boost cut is not an issue for me.

$1000 has to include dyno time as well.

    Thanks for you help guys.

i was under the assumption that i couldn't get the mines retuned... i was more looking towards the safc path possibly. well really my budget for tuning is more towards the $1500 mak.

Go full aftermarket ecu when its all done my LT10s will have set me back about $1700-$1800 including installation (a mate) and tuning (Just Engine Management). When you look at the other amounts your laying out, you may as well do it properly and reap the rewards.

hehe yeh i know, when i get the turbo put on, im relocating the battery to the boot, so the pod will be sitting where the battery tray is.

That doesnt make alot of sense, that turbo would probably be good for 300 rwkw. It's gonna be slow boosting then you are gonna stop it from reaching it's true potential so the car will be slower than your stock turboed 1J.

Maybe with SAFC and 2JZ 550cc injectors and fuel pump you will make 300rwkw with the T60???

Crap i just remembered the impedence of the injectors is different, can this be overcome with stock or mines computer?

yeh i understand that... my car at the moment is only making 240rwhp which is getting really boring for me...

i understand that at 230rwkw it will be kinda holding the turbo back from its true potential... but i don't want to make a jump from 180rwkw to 300rwkw, as in a 180sx it will be too much of a handfull to start off with.

i will be running it around like this not only cause my twin turbos are just about fnished, and just to get used to the power with 230rwkw cause the most i have had before is 200rwkw.

As said probably in about 6 months i will be looking at getting injectors and engine management, then i will be shooting for 280rwkw.

Well my 2JZ 550cc injectors cost me $300 and to go with it I bought a Stinger EMS which was $1040, then it needs to get fitted and tuning. Maybe want to save up a bit more???

P.S. I'm the guy you were PMing on ns.com about my soarer too

Still doesn't make sense. This is a situation similar to Chris Davey's. He has got a giant 300rwkw potential turbo, due to tuning problems (mainly timing) his car was limited to approx 230rwkw approx same weight as yours and could only manage around a 13.8 second quater mile from memory as it was really laggy then delivered poor top end power. You are going to be in the same situation, your 180rwkw stocker will do a 13.8 or quicker at the moment as there is a much nicer meater power curve.

Just save the money and do it properly in one hit in 6 months time as you are not going to achieve anything and will spend more money in the end.

Waiting for you to correct this info Chris
