If I remember Norbie ran his with no PS for ages. In fact I think it might STILL have no PS?
Anyway it wasn't too bad, just a bit heavy at low speed but once you're doing 20km/h you would barely notice.
Thinking about deleting power steer on my car. Rack recommendations? Bad idea? Thoughts?

Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
If you're used to cars with no PS, I don't think it would be an issue. You'd really want to find a celica A6 rack that came factory without the PS.
FWIW i also looked at reducing the pump pressure on the 1UZ to improve steering feel, and it's pretty straight forward. When I get some time spare I'll have a play with it.

Yea my RA60 has no PS or A/C or Sunroof from factory lol.
Click here for Wirysage's RA60 thread RA60 front end FTW!
PS is awesome for parking with wide wheels tho.

Do you think I'd get away with just changing the rack? Or are the ps arms different like on some other cars?
The MA61 already has the long steering arms (A6 celica with PS had awesome short steering arms that can be retrofitted, but they would be HEAVY with no PS). Really you could 'get away' with just disconnecting the fluid lines, but I would personally try and find a non PS rack. Clint might have one? (CLG)

WARNING, DO NOT run a ps rack without fluid presure.
The input shaft on a ps rack is a 2 piece rubber insulated item designed to help reduce shock on the rack when you hit full lock.
Without fluid pressure, It will feel like driveing with some very worn out tie rod ends.
Its very noticeable at speed and even worse on a rough road.
Thanks for the heads up though I wasn't really considering doing that. Mainly I want to reduce the amount of crap in the engine bay, improve steering feel and lower overall weight. Power windows are on the chopping block too.
