for a full 100000km service it will most likely run around the $1500 mark including parts
well thats what i would expect and i would expect it to include
balancer
water pump
timing belt
cam seals
crank seal
oil
filter
cam cover seals if required
Hi, I have a 1994 toyota crown grey import. It's got no service history so I would like to ensure i can keep this reliable and change the cambelt/water pump etc. It has 160km. How many hours would it take or should it take a decent mechanic for labour to get the water pump, timming belt front seals done. I know I can prob source the parts myself cheaper through Amayama but alot of mechanics don't like to fit parts they haven't supplied.
I'm not really in a position where I can do this job myself (no garage tools and haven't done something of this magnatude before), Just trying to find a ball park figure for the job I'm in Sydney if anyone can help me out with a name of somewhere that will do a good job but at a reasonable price i'm all ears.
Cheers

Drop in to your local toyota dealership ask them if they would do the job, genuine parts and by law they have to warrant the work carried out if anything goes wrong. Maybe a couple of weeks/month for the parts to turn up and be more $$$ but peace of mind i guess.

Hi Hiltz thanks for that; Toyota dealerships charge like a wounded bull, but I might ask them for a reference point. I think a competent mechanic can get it done in about 4 - 5 hrs, what do you mechanics charge for an hourly rate these days?
I work at a local ford dealership here in perth, our hourly labour rate is roughly $140 p/h, so i do understand that dealerships do charge like wounded bulls as you say but if they print you out a proper quote that would give a good idea of the cost, then take it to another toyota dealer in the next suburb/town and see if they would do a better deal. This is a rough guess that a good local mechanical workshop would charge anywhere from $70+ p/h labour plus parts and giving that they will most prolly mark up the parts anyway. I'm not trying to con you into going to a dealership just shop around and see who will do a good deal and who you feel comfortable working on your pride and joy.

Have a look at this thread to see whats involved if you want to DIY - GUIDE timing belt and water pump replacement JZZ30 soarer 100K service
And there are many places that you can get the parts cheaper, such as Castle Hill Toyota and forum sponsor Amayama so make sure you ring around.
i am doing this aervice now on my gte
i have stem seals and turbo gasket kit also which puts the price up but toyota quoted me $1500+
amayama quoted $1000 and 100 bucks postage
you can get some parts cheaper like aftermarket stem seals balancer pulley etc and a few minot parts are cheaper from toyota but they probably dont use genuine parts lol - getting a quote from both toyota and amayama should be very simple
the mechanic should be making his money on the labour not parts so buy your own toyota parts if you are on a budget and tell them to get fucked and fit what you brung
if a mechanic has all the gear and done this job many times before it should be done in less than a day easy
