Default Draft of National Rules for Vehicle Modifications

Heres a link to the DOTARs website for the new draft they are working on to bring all the states into alignment for an Australia wide standard on what you can or cant do to your car when modifying.

well there are a few plusses, and there are a few negatives.

It's good that there will be a nationwide standard, meaning that the troubles and hassles of registering a modified car in a different state would be gone...

There is DEFINITELY a plus with the changes in the capacity limitations!! You'll legally be able to fit a 1UZ into your RA2* celica!!

The negatives i guess will be the potential cracking down on compliance with emmisions and stuff.

NOTE: I have only reviewed NCOP3 - Engine Modifications.

Well that sucks the massive dong. That rules out turbo/supercharged 1UZ in an MA61 or MZ10!? I like our current WA rules!

    overall it looks very good.

perhaps the aussie ar culture will move to being more emissions friendly IF emissions tests are accessible and not too expensive..

so when is section LS steering and suspension coming out

edit: thanks Cruzida... there's a page two?

I think it's mostly a good thing. It's only about 50 years late to have a national system... It removes the chance of putting big engines into little cars in Victoria, but then convincing an engineer that you could do anything with any imagination was impossible beforehand anyway, unless you wanted a Chev in a Torana or something equally dull...

As always, I'd say an engineer can over rule these regulations.

Because it pretty much rules out supercharged 350chevs, which is what the summer nats are about.

I'd be more than happy to make my car emissions compatible, and get it tested, and retuned if need be.

But make the test free, don't make it $2000.

the point of the regs is that an engineer cannot overrule most things, and if they do, the car is classed as an ICV... otherwise, engineers would approve anything you could think of, provided you had the correct supporting systems.

if an engineer approves something outside the frame work, then it does not make it legal to register, as this would undermine the point of having the regs in the first place.

LOL.. and every car at the summernats is engineered and legal ... all those convertible and V8 conversions? unless they were done before the regs got tightened years ago, they are simply not legal

It was nice of them to use two of the cars I was going to make calculations for as examples, that saved me some time.

I guess they must have had a lot of enquiries about modifying early corollas and celicas.
    Who would have guessed?
