I think the failing copper-washer was mentioned in this thread: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/tec...ts-pieces.html
hi,
Had a 2005 hilux 1KDFTV common rail at work today complaining of smoke when he parks facing down hill.
Pulled the cam cover and injectors to find the copper washer had failed letting combustion gases up to the O ring. The O ring had fallen appart which allowed the oil to run down through the copper washer and into the combustion chamber. but only when the car was parked on a slope.
Also, the intercooler piping was soaked in oil. we put this down to the combustion leak increasing crank case pressure.
Anyone heard of similar problems with 2005 hilux's?
cheers.

i did a deisel course recently and i would hate to own a late model hilux
and pick up a bad batch of fuel
if u dont catch it quickly enough it can end up costing up to 8000 bucks to get it fixed
There is no service bulletin for this to be done that i know of, at least not in australia.
How tight were the injector clamps when you pulled them off?
8k to fix doesnt sound right for a bad batch of fuel.
Fuel filter-40 dollars
injectors- 4 x 750ish
Fuel pump-1500
maybe it was a dealer-sponsored course, e.g. if check engine light illuminates, advise owner motor is ruined due to out-of-warranty use and quote cost of pallet motor ex-japan?
parts turned up today, they included aluminium washers.
Injector bolts were def tight.
flushed oil and she's running mint now.

Yes the seating washers are a known problem.
They have been known to let the combustion gases into the tappet cover and cook the oil,
which then blocks the oil pickup in the sump.
The other issue is the return line from the injectors leaking which is also inside the tappet cover,
which dilutes the oil down until they run a bearing of the oil/diesil mix come out the turbo as the fill up past the drain.
And the HP pumos wear too.
We have had numerous issue's with them here as we do a lot of diesil EFI stuff.
