The motor you're talking about I'm guessing is a 1hd-fte, the 70 series version doesn't require the key and security stuff to work, much simpler computer set up. Mate has one in a 70 ute that he fitted in his backyard and he didn't have a problem at all. Did you work out the problem with you motor yet cam?

    yea sorry the 1hdfte
I'm trying to see i can get the latest
200 series 1vd and auto working in another car,
once I get the diagrams for it ill know

I did a 2kv last year in a tipper truck
took awhile but sorted it out,
another big problem was fking wreckers supplied
    wrong bits and mismatched parts,
the engine ecu had water damaged so got another
then had wrong injector driver ecu
so I had to reprogram the injectors to the mismatched injector driver ecu
but after afew weeks we worked it out,
your best bet is plug a good scanner into the diag plug
and read live data or find someone with Toyota techsteam
thats what I use on the 1hdte landcruisers

That would be good, the engine and manual have been done before into a 100, required 2" body lift to fit under the bonnet. This motor and box was again out of a ute, so simpler security system.

Yeah, easyer, but a whole heap gayer....
Should be able to run the whole set up if you wanted to. What car are you trying to put it into? A 80 with full 200 spec interior etc would be mint, a whole heap of work but the cruiser toyota should be building.....

    prob in a 100 series
    just the motor not dash
and just sit down and work out getting
    dash to work
I went down to cooma diesel last year and did
a small course on new diesel stuff
    was pretty interesting

That would be good. I can't see why it wouldn't work, as far as I know the dashes use the same signal types, etc. I would love to do a serious common rail course, just all the ones held around here are for mechanics who don't know shit about diesel, and tafe is a joke. Everyone just wants to replace parts and anyone who knows doesn't want to share what they know.

Fair enough, I'm the opposite, do a fair bit of mechanical, mostly service and minor repairs from user abuse. I definatly like the hdfte better, doesn't use oil and just appears to be a much better motor IMO. You sound like the guy I need to talk to when I do my 100-80 swap, want the 100 motor cause it has more boost and inter cooler, just a little hazy on the wiring, but I have the wiring diagrams for both (factory) so it shouldn't be too hard. Just need to find the money to buy write off and not need to spend the money on the Celica. I hate the canbus system, I haven't plugged into a commodore/falcon yet that didn't have at least one communication error code. I have been getting into the electrics side of things when I can, but work sends anything too complex into the auto elects cause it's too hard to get paid for it by leasing companies.

First things first, change the fuel and air filters, use some genuine injector cleaner or a double dose of flash lube and ensure your exhaust isn't rooted. Next would be put a new exhaust on it, if you are in the Ipswich area see Scott's rods, even if you're not give him a call, his workmanship is worth the drive. If you still need more contact axt, they do upgraded turbo kits. All depends how deep your pockets are. Any questions pm me by all means. This order is just from my experience, and by all means tell me what all you others think, have done, would change.

All 1VD,s have security but the 70 doesnt run CAN bus so would be a 100 % workable thing if you want single turbo manual.
1VD,s are a big pain to do any major work on .
The 1HDFTE is by far the best toyota diesel made , Change the ct 26 for a nice garrett roller turbo, bigger cooler and exhaust with some extra fuel control . I reckon that would be a nice package.
Electronics and new diesels are a pain ,

I am considering selling my bt50 3.2 for problems I believe caused by the egr. It has had a ticking noise in the engine since 6000km and now has 28000km. The mazda service manager advised me they believe the issue is carbon buildup in the engine causing excess combustion.
Obviously this will lead to premature failure if that is the case.

Im thinking about going back to a d4d hilux (I wish they made the v6 in a 4x4 space cab). Id love to know - is there a way of removing the egr and cooler altogether? ( Surely the ecu can be retuned to work correctly without it?
