Default 2JZ-GE Auto - Limp mode - No error codes :(

On the off chance any of my fellow Toymodders have hit this issue I thought I'd post it up

As some of you know my Crown wagon is 2JZ-GE powered with the factory Auto and ECU. The package is from a JZZ31 Soarer (07/1994 model) and has run faultlessly for 6 years but has developed an intermittent issue. It is going into full limp mode, BUT is not giving me any error codes. Even if I put it into diagnostic mode, get it to misbehave and check I get nothing

Anyone else had this issue and been able to track it down ?

At present it looks like it will be off to Toyota for a plug into the Toyota Handheld scanner to see if it can tell me whats wrong.

full limp mode can be a miillion things
u havnt even said what symptons is doing hehhee
its prob the auto starting to fail
if the symptoms cut in and out irregularly then its prob electircal but should bring up codes
if they slowly come in and out its prob mechanical
    look at oil condition
doubt u will read much by fitting scanner onto it
especially the auto side of it

.. thought you were talking about engine ECU, not the auto ECU.

Just to clarify, the auto transmission is fine.

Engine is going into limp mode. The 2J only has one ecu that rules them all (Engine and gearbox)

As for symptoms, full limp mode is the symptom. But for those that don't know, full limp locks the auto into 3rd gear and dumps in fuel.

Rod, I had that happen in one of my previous Celsiors. Changed the 02 sensors on advice from my lad, and all returned to normal.

    cheers Chuck.

Does the 'check engine' light come on when it goes into limp mode?

Out of curiosity, do you have a lamp connected to the O/D light output of the ECU? Even though the one ECU controls both, the engine and transmission parts have their own diagnostic lamps (transmission part of the ECU uses the O/D OFF lamp).

Strange that it doesn't report any faults... :S
