    Default finding my headlamp wire

I am installing my two gauges I brought and obviously its impossible to find a wiring diagram for my 101 levin. Im just wondering how do I go about finding the wire that turns my headlights on and off so I can bridge the wire from my gauges that operate the gauge lights. wheres the best place to bridge this and where should I start looking to find this wire? and also testing it to make sure thats the wire. I have a multimeter but I barely know how to use it accept making the PING noise

Two cars I have just checked use a light/mint green wire at the combination switch.

Grounding this wire turns the relay for the taillights on.

Be cautious however, as it is possible that the wire from the relay may also be green.
Unfortunately, I cannot check for your specific model.

    Edit:
I just read Brad's response, and realized that he has probably deduced your intention better than I.

The wire I described is to turn the taillights on.

If you check the wiring at your dash light dimmer switch you should find what you are after.
Get a test light, turn on your park lights and check for power at the dimmer switch. Next dim the dash lights while still check for power. The test light will dim on one of the wires as you turn the dimmer switch. This is the wire you connect to the gauge lights. This way they will dim and brighten with your dash lights.

    Hi,

Easiest way, IMO, would be to find *any* light for illuminating any part of the dash (eg ash tray) and connect your gauge lights to those wires. The dimming function should still work if the light in the dash dimmed.
Otherwise you can tap off one of the lights illuminating the instrument cluster - for me the decision would rest with whatever was easier to remove, and/or if it's a dimming light.

Without checking diagrams, the wires are probably green (power, comes on with parkers) and white/green stripe for the return (increases in voltage as the lights are dimmed).

Modern dimmers "dim" the ground return and not the power supply to the lights, making it more difficult to trace with a test light - the light return will increase in voltage as the lights dim.
If the car is a jap import it may not have a dimmer.

he guys all done.. unfortunatly the previous owner decided that the dimmer looked ugly on the dash so he set it at the maximum brightness pulled the plug off and stuck the wires behind the dash and then put a Air purifier button there instead which is completly un operational!! GRRR so I tested a few wires on the steering collumn and found the one I was looking for. I get the light when its turned onto park and normal lights.

funniest part of the day was when I was using the test light and I found the horn wire whilst my misses was standing in front of the car with the bonnet up looking at something ROFL... just about fell over. gota love double horns
